Construction PM - Construction Operations & Methods Reference Books

Please recommend a list of reference books for construction operations and methods for the afternoon in depth exam.  Particularly those books that have good problem examples for the multi-step exam questions in the afternoon exam session.

    references

I found pereview.net beneficial for the AM, but weak in the PM (construction depth).

    References for the Construction Depth

Thanks for the tip on the estimating book. Any recommendations for good scheduling books that have the same format as NCEES problems?

    References for the Construction Depth

Is the book by Puerifoy, "Estimating Construction Costs" useful? I haven't seen any recommendations on this or other good estimating books to use as references.

Switching from working on public works projects to civil oil and gas projects

Eddierizzle posted a good question that I have been looking for an answer for also. In my case I have worked in numerous capacities (program manager, senior project manager, project controls manager, etc.) for large general contractors on complex design build projects ranging from major airport...

    Index for NCEES Pratice Exam?

I also created an index for these types of books. Basically it references the category (ex.-transportation), the topic (horizontal curve), problem number and page number. Set this up in Excel and it can be taped inside the back cover of the book for quick reference.

    Construction 6 Minute Solutions

I agree with Jayman. I have spent the last two days reviewing this book. It has a few good problems, but overall it is so convoluted it will take away your last shred of self confidence. For example, problem 29 involves estimating a steel frame. There is no way you would assume 12 columns...

SIX MINUTE SOLUTIONS FOR CIVIL EXAM

Unfortunately this book is in the same vein as the Goswami Practice Exam Book. Between the errors and the overly complicated problems, it's an effort in frustration to work through. While there are some good problems, some are so long that it is physically impossible to get the solution within...

NCEES Sample Problem #507 - Construction PM

I had never read it explained in that context. The old "understanding the concept" light bulb went on again. Thanks for this explanation.

    Index for CERM 12th Edition

Can someone post a pdf of this or provide a link to obtain it? I haven't located it on the ppi2pass website and wanted a cleaner version than using the book on a copy machine. Thanks.

    OLD NCEES PRACTICE EXAM RECOMENDED

You are right. Look through the soils, transportation, and water depth problems. There are a lot of good problems in these depth sections that are applicable to the morning breadth and very good preparation.

    NCEES Civil Morning Problem 119

Thank you. I had been hung up on the distance from the centroidal axis in the moment of inertia equation for two beams of the same size rotated 90 degrees from each other (choices c and d in the problem). A registered SE walked me through this today and the light bulb finally went back on...

    NCEES Civil Morning Problem 119

Dano, I feel your pain. Problem 112 (from 2008 book) makes more sense from a common sense standpoint. However, like you I am not structural and would like to see in black and white the concepts to make sense of both of these problems.

    Breadth Exam-Structural Syllabus

The advice I was given was to focus on shear-moment diagrams, simple truss problems, and basically those mechanics of materials and loadings items listed on the NCEES syllabus. I too am dreading this portion of the AM exam but have focused on these areas mentioned to boost my confidence to...

ERRATA - Goswami's Practice Exams (New)

The above comments are right to the point about this book. I too had studied considerably prior to purchasing this book and felt my confidence crushed when I started working the problems. Many of the problems are very specific to Goswami's text book versus having anything relative in CERM...
