Power factor in unbalanced 3phase system

Having said that, in the real world, we have unbalanced systems all over.  Particularly on electric utility distribution grids.  We do our best to balance and assume  that any power factor "errors" are negligible.

Bode plots - Smith Charts- Root locus etc.

If you have not already purchased I strongly recommend Complex Imaginary and Spinup practice tests.  Complex Imaginary also has an excellent study guide for the NEC.  The Elec. Engineers Guide to Passing the Power PE by Alex Graffeo is also very good.

Power factor in unbalanced 3phase system

I personally have never seen any review material that asks about power factor in an unbalanced system.  if you do one of the answer choices would probably be "indeterminate".

Power factor in unbalanced 3phase system

I have attached a file which includes power factor info as you scroll towards the bottom. As you look at the beer analogy you can see how if you have more foam (reactive power/i.e. lower pactor factor) you have to use a larger glass (more expensive, higher capacity equipment) but still get...

Bode plots - Smith Charts- Root locus etc.

There is a book titled something like, "Elec. Engineering for non-Elec. Engineers"  Depending upon your amount of time might be worth checking out.  I'm serious.  Could be helpful.

Power factor in unbalanced 3phase system

Power factor is usually thought of in the context of a balanced system.  per The Standard handbook for Elec. Engineers (10th Edition), section 3-76 "The power factor of a polyphase circuit which is balanced is the same as that of the individual phases.  When the phases are not balanced, the true...

Bode plots - Smith Charts- Root locus etc.

Full disclosure, I was one of those "average" engineering students.  Too many Natural Lite kegs and engineering groupies in college. :B   If I can pass  you can too.

Bode plots - Smith Charts- Root locus etc.

I heard someone say that the test is designed so that your average engineer (B- or C student?) can pass with the appropriate amount of study and experience.  As mentioned earlier 6 minutes should be the average time it takes to solve a problem.  I tend to think of it in terms of the...

    Electrical Power - NESC material

Take about 5 minutes to read through the index/contents.  Take the entire book with you.  The general consensus of everyone, including the GA Tech professor who taught my review course, is that you MAY have 1-2 questions on the NESC.  If you have more than that say a thank you prayer because you...

Good practices problems book for Power PE

I second Kovz's recommendation The Electrical Engineer's Guide to Passing the Power PE Exam/Alex Graffeo.  It helped fill in key gaps.  I got it about a month ahead of the exam and made good use of it.  I also used the other books you have.

    Transmission Distribution Protection

Complex imaginary practice tests have good sample problems along with the Engineers Guide to Passing the Power PE exam.

Is the NCEES practice exam updated periodically?

Spin-up also has a good practice test book.  Problems may seem simple at first but they, along with Complex Imaginary, drive home the basics.

The Electrical Engineer's Guide to Passing the Power PE Exam Spiral-bound – 2016 review

NCEES material is a must have.  I used the guide in question and found it very helpful.  Listed below is a review I actually posted in Amazon and which can also be found in the "Testimonial" section of the book's website.  I also took the Georgia Tech course and used SpinUp and ComplexImaginary...

    Cheat Sheets

Agreed.  Part of ingraining the info into your brain is to make a cheat sheet(s) based on your studying.  Don't wait until the last minute.  It took me two weeks to complete my cheat sheets.  Along with my hardcover reference material I also brought in two 3-ring binders full of sample test...

Spin-Up, Complex Imaginary, which is better

Agreed Kovz!! Yes!! all are good.  Spinup's introduction also has an excellent test taking strategy.

Advice Please Power PE - 2nd Time going on 3rd

I posted this info awhile back elsewhere on the site.  Hopefully it will help. I took the GA Tech course and, if you allow me to share, here's how I approached it. Just know that I graduated from college 25 years ago. I took the the PE twice almost 17 years ago and did not pass. I allowed...

    Oct 2015 Power exam

They will be here before you know it. I think it took about 5-6 weeks in April '14. Keep checking here and look out for rumblings from other members. Then check the NCEES site. Different states announce them at different times. In the meantime, I recommend responsible drinking of craft beers.

    Oct 2015 Power exam

Stare into a mirror and say "NCEES" five times. A deranged test proctor will magically appear, hand you your scores and then stab you to death with a exam pencil. (CANDYMAN reference for all the young whippersnappers.)

Has anyone indexed the NCEES sample questions
