Index for All sample exams discussions and reference materials

Perfectly fine to post questions from the NCEES sample exam. In fact there's a pinned post covering that very topic. In fact I've attached that particular post. Good luck!

    Challenging questions for PE Power

Just for clarification, are you refererring to questions that are in the various review materials or questions that test takers actually saw on the exam? The second scenario is not permissable. Just wanting to make sure I understand the question.

    Study Course Selection

Fox....Thanks for posting that. Wjrez......I do recommend at least going with Complex Imaginary, Spinup and internet resources. Lots of problems comparable to what's on the test. Make sure you allot several days to organize your own personal reference book and formula sheet. Just doing that...

    Study Course Selection

Glad I could pass it along. This board was a tremendous help to me when I took it.

    Study Course Selection

The advice you've received so far is good. I would not recommend the MGI course. I purchased it because it was the least expensive. The problems are not really comparable to the ones on the exam. I took the GA Tech course, even though it's twice the price, and thought it was excellent. I've...

    What's in your binder?

I know the info listed below is a lot more than was aked for but hopefully it will be helpful. It helped me pass in April '14. It's from an earlier posting of mine. Two three ring binders. Composed of GA Tech material, solved problems, and miscellaneous info I printed from the internet. One...

PE test - Electronics or Power?

I agree. it's good to have for moral support but if you can borrow it as opposed to buying that would be the best choice. it's not useful enough to spend money on it.

PE test - Electronics or Power?

There are several posts, including some of mine, that address more thoroughly but here are some good resources for the Power PE: Complex Imaginary sample tests Complex Imaginary NEC Drill Book Spin-Up sample tests The Elec. Engineer's Guide to passing the Power PE Exam Georgia Tech's prep...

PE test - Electronics or Power?

i guess if you view the exam as test of your experience also you should go with Power. You mentioned that you might have to study a lot of theory but there are those of us who had to study theory even though we concentrated in power while in college and worked in the area on the job. Just my...

Graffeo Ex 51 - Using MVA Method

For what it's worth Graffeo is very good in responding to questions. Nothing wrong with asking here either. Everyone benefits then.

Can PE Power exam help changing job?

Yes it's possible. I have 28+ years of experience in the utility industry. there are plenty of recent hires just graduated w/o utility experience. Believe it or not the enginering work is quite diverse. Relay engineer, substation physical design, control wiring design, equipment maintenance...

2014 NEC Code Book or the Handbook

I used the handbook. Don't know if it made a big difference but i liked the idea of the additional explantions. Regardless of whether you use the actual Code or the handbook the biggest difference will be what type of suppementary prep book you use. I STRONGLY recommend purchasing Complex...

    AL results are out

I passed AL in April 2014. What I recall, and my memory is fuzzy, is that they only sent out letters. However, i found out beforehand by constantly checking the NCEES site.

    Concept vs Problems

I recommend a prep course also. The Ga Tech course was very helpful to me. Full blown course not just the manual. Others have spoken highly of School of PE.

    Question on References and Courses

That's a good amount. asise from what I mentioned earlier I took in a few textbooks, along with the Camara book, for moral support but did not use them much at all. the only other additional item I strongly recommend bringing is info on utility rates and metering. Could come in handy. I...

    Question on References and Courses

I leaned a lot on the GA Tech Review course, Complex Imaginary tests and Spin-up. The code drill book I mentioned earlier was extremely helpful. I found the Graffeo book very helpful in filling in key gaps. His explanations are easy to understand and he is accessible via email. Finally, the...

    MGI PE Review course

Posted 17 June 2015 - 11:24 AM Not a fan of MGI. IMHO, there's a reason it's almost half the cost of GA Tech. I liked the idea of the mini-exams but the problems really did not correlate with the actual exam problems. I also felt the material was sparse I ordered it but decided to abandon it...
