I recommend testmasters. I had to take it twice, but it definitely helped structure my studying.

Passed TFS. 79%. 2nd attempt. Definitely a relief! Congrats to all who passed. To those that fell short, you've already invested the time. Don't let it beat you down. Keep driving forward!

    FE Mechanical or General

I suggest sticking with the mechanical exam. If you ever pursue PE licensure (assuming you will), you can't get out of taking the mechanical PE exam. Just work on improving your mechanical skills and keep grinding at it. You'll be glad you did when you pass the FE mechanical. Just my $.02. Did...

    TFS: Oct 2018 Exam Thoughts

My opinion was that the PM session was much more difficult than April's. The creative writing of the problems and the material subjects covered caught me off guard. I didn't really have trouble with fluids related problems. A few tricky ones, but I think I got most of the fluids. So far, I've...

October 2018 - Funny Exam Stories

Were you in Houston by chance? I saw a bunch of closed entrances around NRG. Didn't affect me, but just wondering if that's what you had experienced. We have the really rude and kinda funny chief proctor in Houston. He loves his job and takes it very serious. I laugh at some of his comments...

    TFS: Oct 2018 Exam Thoughts

I hear you there. LOL. I felt the same on some of those. Just put my head down and worked them like I knew how, and moved on.

Nah. I felt the same way. Another study partner felt the same.

    TFS: Oct 2018 Exam Thoughts

AM was on par or slightly harder than April, in my opinion. PM was awful for me. Definitely crushed my spirits. I managed to answer most. I think overall, I guessed on 10 (AM and PM). And not all were educated guesses. Sucks! At least the pencil was much better...

Fighting the urge to study today

Out of habit and stress. I know what to expect, I just get stressed for things like this.

Fighting the urge to study today

Is anyone else fighting the urge to study today? This is my second attempt, so you'd think I'd know better. But, I'm paranoid since that last time and feel I need to put in more time. I feel prepared, but still anxious. I've tried walking the dog, doing random pushups in the living room...

NCEES TFS practice exam problem 533

Awesome. Thanks again. So, temps given. Use that as actual. If not, calculate ideal, then find actual via given efficiency. This helps a lot!

NCEES TFS practice exam problem 533

Thanks, Slay. You've been a great help. That's interesting. Now, I'm wondering that if they give the values, if we should always take those as actual, but if not given, work the problem isentropically then find the actuals?

NCEES TFS practice exam problem 533

Hey folks,  Did a quick search and didn't see anything on this. For those that have the NCEES TFS practice exam: When solving for T3 (out of regenerator, before burner), shouldn't you use the actual T5 temperature out of the turbine rather than the ideal outlet temp (turbine efficiency is...

    Personal reference notes

I'd suggest making a copy of them as to not run the risk of having a proctor accuse you of writing in your notes. Just my opinion. I'd also not staple the notes so that you can flip through them easier.

    Help with cooling problem

I went back and checked the problem statement. You're right. I found h1 in the psych chart, and when I transcribed my work to upload here, I had it as given data. Good catch.

    Help with cooling problem

Good point. I think I'm wrapping my head around it now. For some reason, HVAC type problems give me fits and I'm trying to get better at them. It was my weak area on my first attempt in April. I'm also always nervous I don't read the graph correctly or cross up lines, etc when using the graphs.

    Help with cooling problem

Ah. Thanks for the explanation! That makes sense now. I was struggling with this problem today.

    Help with cooling problem

Is it because the air going into the coil is a mixture of air/water? To use mCpdT, it must be ideal?

    Help with cooling problem

Folks, could someone help me understand when using "q=m-dot x Cp x Delta T" will not work with a gas or air? I get mixed up thinking I can use this formula for most gas/air situations, but I recently worked an HVAC problem that the solution used an energy balance across the condenser to solve...
