    PE registration question

EIT and PE exams are nationally recognized. So you should just have to apply with the state's board you want to be licensed in. If you are already licensed in OR, then you should apply for comity in WA. I'd suggest contacting the state's board of engineers on what you need and how to apply for...

How much time does it take for you to complete each practice exam?

I took the EngProGuides Final exam yesterday. Finished the AM session with about 15 minutes left on the clock, went a little over on the PM session, but i got majorly stuck on 3 questions, that i spent a while reworking to get them correct. (probably lost like 30-45 minutes here... cause I was...

How much time does it take for you to complete each practice exam?

The live class session for October was really nice because Zach ended up included a lot of the handbook stuff, plus I enjoyed having something to keep me on a schedule and motivated. (there were a few weeks this round when the only studying I did were live class related 🙃) Definitely recommend...

How much time does it take for you to complete each practice exam?

Lucky you! My work load has tripled since the quarantine, and I've been putting a lot more time in on the job - which has left a lot less time for studying. But I feel like after doing a lot of the initial studying for the April exam, I was a lot more comfortable with all the subjects during...

How much time does it take for you to complete each practice exam?

@akyip you're fast!!! my times have varied a lot, and I've been solving tests straight through this time, only skipping if i don't know what it's asking immediately, or if I can tell it's a very involved problem. At the beginning I still had 7-14 questions left at 4hrs, but now i'm getting...

Can this problem be solved with our reference handbook?

@SparkyBill  This stuff does take a bit of headscratching to figure out, I spent a while translating between Zach's notes, the handbook, and that whitepaper, until it finally clicked!  Interpreting what the questions are asking is going to be up to you, but I've written a bit more of a plain...

Can this problem be solved with our reference handbook?

@SparkyBill Sorry I didn't elaborate earlier, I was headed out of the house. The restrictions go with the formulas. but they will also work for 3 phase too. I don't know why they've restricted it to 1 phase transformers. Granted your problem up there doesn't specify what kind of transformer. 😉...

Can this problem be solved with our reference handbook?

Yup. Top of page 60 in the handbook - you'll have to rearrange the formulas a little bit.

NEC Table 400.5(A)(1) for Flexible Cords and Flexible Cables: Cram for Exam Vol. 4 Question 52

I agree with you @akyip as I also chose 40Amps as the answer to this question based on the same reasoning. @Cram For The PE Do you have any input on this?

Question trying to solve voltage for Burden of transformer

    Current transformer, not regular transformer! 200A is the line current. So Ipri/Isec = Npri/Nsec Isec = Ipri(Nsec/Npri) Isec = 200A(5/200) = 5A Then Ohms Law it V=IR V =5A*1ohm =5V

NEC OCPD on a transformer question

The ampacity of your load is 100%. Your ocpd needs to be bigger than that. The chart gives you the maximum size. So the 300% rating is the largest it can be. If that 300% rating is an odd size like 313A, you can go smaller but not bigger. So youll pick the 300A ocpd cause that is the largest...

April/October 2020 Power PE Exam Prep

So how is everyone's studying going? Work has been a madhouse this week for me, and I took it easy this weekend, only working Zach's end of class test. Though I might do a course quiz or two this afternoon if I get the chance. I think i'm going into burnout mode after a full year of this, so...

Three-Phase Circuit Problem- Solve It and Get A Discount on My Books

It was more of an attempt at single phase equivalent circuits... Which didnt seem like it would work, but I'd also just read this White paper and 0 seemed like a reasonable answer for an open circuit. Ive never ran into this problem in the field as most of the 3 phase systems at my work are delta.

    Power PE Reference Handbook Errors

Other mistakes that we've discussed in Zach's class and on the forums: 4.3.1.6 Single-Phase transformers in Parallel - %ZT1 and %ZT2 are switched in the formulas on page 60 4.3.1.7 Autotransformers - in the last equation NC in the denominator should be NSE page 61 and I think it was mentioned...

Transformer Zero Sequence Diagrams on Reference Handbook

I agree, it shouldn't have the ground in that diagram. Might be because they're referencing the 1982 version of the book. 🙄 My Indian edition of Power Systems Analysis by Grainger and Stevenson printed in 2018, had a similar table and the connection diagram has no ground nor arrows in the...

April/October 2020 Power PE Exam Prep

Not yet. The online version isnt searchable, and i'd hate to buy it again. I wish it was like dvds used to be: buy the dvd, get a digital copy free. 😂 Might have to see about buying the pdf through work.

April/October 2020 Power PE Exam Prep

That's it! 125 in the morning session in my 2017 version, and this is exactly what I did to solve it! Zach's class is the best! However, as we are only allowed the handbook for the CBT i was attempting the practice exam with no additional references. I need to rewatch the videos and work on it...
