NCEES Exam Request for the SE

Are you domiciled in the State of New York? If so, I would think there is a closer exam site than Chicago (e.g. Hartford). It sounds like you'd be applying for licensure in Illinois ex post facto, anyway. If you've been approved to sit for the exam, there's nothing else you need to do...

Taking the SE Lateral and Vertical the same time

It's definitely possible to pass both portions of the exam on the same weekend. The prevailing argument for this approach is that, if you happen to pass both in the same weekend, you've truncated what can be a long, drawn-out process. In other words--if you have an opportunity to accomplish...

What is the best book/s to prepare for the SE building PM portion?

Not knowing what you've used to prepare thus far, definitely pick up the NCEES practice exam and Joseph Schuster's book of practice exams. In my experience, the NCEES practice exam was a bit easier than the real thing, but Mr. Schuster's practice exams were closer in degree of difficulty...

Pedestrian Bridge Collapse - Florida International University

No, I was offended when you wrote, "Do some research" and proceeded to put words in my mouth. As if you're the only structural engineer who has read anything about what has become a very publicized incident. Know your audience. Some of us have been around longer than you.

Pedestrian Bridge Collapse - Florida International University

You may want to watch your condescension. The point I'm making is that, if you have a "regular" four-lane main street, with "regular" speed limits and traffic controls, such that pedestrians aren't regularly fearing for their lives trying to cross that road... then there is no bridge necessary...

Pedestrian Bridge Collapse - Florida International University

Oh, it most definitely does. If you have streets that are pedestrian-friendly and crossable on foot, and roadway geometries that aren't divided highways with speed limits of 45 mph, you have no need for pedestrian bridges. I'm not a transportation guy, but I know that as engineers, our job is...

Pedestrian Bridge Collapse - Florida International University

Such an awful and preventable tragedy. The seeds were sown, however, when some genius at FDOT decided that every main road in the state needed to be a high-speed 8-lane divided highway.

    Georgia Results

The Georgia Board can take a while sometimes, especially since the start of the pandemic. Rest assured, you'll obtain your license eventually. You should have seen how long it took them to process all 1000+ affadavits for grandfathering when they introduced SE licensure earlier this year...

    Results Soon ....right?

NCEES spends $1323 to create one multiple-choice question, and $17,972 to create one constructed-response question. That's a quarter-million bucks to create one version of the 16-hour exam. And you want solutions? For free? I don't think badgering NCEES is in anyone's interest. You'd be...

I live and work in Georgia but took PE Exam in Florida. Does Georgia allow licensing by exam in another state.

If you want to be in Responsible Charge of engineering work, I think you can handle this.

non-residents stamping drawings from out side the US

I'm not aware of any residency requirements for sealing drawings. I've personally reviewed submittals sealed by engineers who were domiciled internationally. Of course, I'm not the authority on this. If you have any doubt at all, check with DPOR.

    Get licensed in 2 disciplines?

Here's a terrific example of two licensed Professional Engineers who decided to expand their areas of expertise. Emphases are mine. "On March 27, 1981, Harbour Cay Condominium, a five-story flat-plate reinforced concrete building, collapsed as concrete was being placed for the roof slab...

    Get licensed in 2 disciplines?

Exactly. For a structural engineer, anyway, any time spent developing competency in unrelated realms is time *not* spent developing structural expertise. This is a field where people spend entire careers not learning a fraction of the knowledge that is out there. There's no good reason to...

    Get licensed in 2 disciplines?

Perhaps its different in other fields of engineering, but I don't see how it is beneficial for a structural engineer to pass the electrical PE exam (as an example). There's enough to learn in our own field that diluting one's time to demonstrate minimum competency in another engineering...

    Get licensed in 2 disciplines?

Now, this is just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. I am a structural engineer. If I were to interview a candidate that held PE licenses in multiple disciplines, the following thoughts cross my mind: 1. Which one, if any, are you actually good at? 2. How do I know you're going to...

With a couple exceptions, the exam locations are skewed toward states that have SE licensure, and thus, higher demand for the exam.

I don't know, man. If you still have feelings, then the exam clearly didn't work you over hard enough.

Those "useless super technical books", as you call them, are the legal building code requirements for structural design in those materials. Maybe you want to clarify your statement?
