I almost solved the NCEES Pencil Color Equation! ..... but not quite

Hahaha didn’t want to do anything that might have a chance of having my results invalidated.

I almost solved the NCEES Pencil Color Equation! ..... but not quite

Was a darn good pencil. Asked the proctor yesterday when I finished if I could keep it lol he said sorry but no and just sort of chuckled.

    One Month Out Encouragement

Thanks for the encouragement. I've done two timed practice exams over the past couple of months + practice problems. I've been going through the NCEES practice exam, and have found it pretty straightforward so far. I've put in 220 hours so far. Taking School of PE to polish off my knowledge...

    Using Practice Problems as Reference

Thanks, I agree. Will stick to taking only practice exam solutions.

    Using Practice Problems as Reference

I've read that a lot of people bring tons of worked practice problems to use as a reference. I feel like this would be too hard to manage during the actual exam trying to sift through hundreds of problems to find a similar one. Furthermore, I feel like the time spent writing out neat solutions...

PE Thermal and Fluids System Study Pal (October 2019)

I'll be taking TFS in October as well. Central time zone. I'm definitely open to keeping in touch. I need someone I can talk to about problems I'm having trouble with, general things about the exam, etc. Feel free to PM me.

Practice problems for Mechanical Engineering PE exam - A companion to the MERM

Much harder than the exam questions IMO. Haven't taken the exam yet, but I did a quick look through of the NCEES practice exam, and those problems seem more reasonable. I've also found the few heat transfer questions from 6 Minute Solutions I've done to be pretty tough. I did the Eng Pro Guide...

    nominal pipe sizes

In my experience, if pipe material is not specified (e.g., Schedule 40 Steel), I use the diameter given in the problem statement. If pipe material IS specified, refer to piping tables (App 16.B in the MERM) for diameter and area (make sure to pay attention to units!).

fluid mechanics - pressure drop in a pipe

I agree with the others - use Bernoulli and whittle it down as appropriate. My fluids professor in college required us to ALWAYS write out the equation first if we wanted credit, so it is ingrained in my memory forever lol. EDIT: Can't believe I used "right" instead of "write"

    PE exam October 2019 question

As far as I can tell, the MERM covers everything across all mechanical tests. What I did was parse out the sections relevant to the TFS exam per NCEES specs and have only focused on those. Also using Engineering Pro Guides study guide.

Targeted Study Approach and Practice Problems?

Excellent write-up! I laughed when I read Step 1 (Spend Money) - I have spent a small fortune so far on books, practice exams, and I just registered for a prep course. At the end of the day, I'd rather be out a few bucks than have to take this test more than once, so I'm taking the approach of...

Targeted Study Approach and Practice Problems?

I have the Slay the PE practice exam. The questions seem a bit harder than the NCEES practice exam, and testimonials on the STPE site seem to confirm this. They do seem like high-quality questions. I think I'm at the point where I've reviewed all the exam topics and need to start cranking out...

Targeted Study Approach and Practice Problems?

I have those resources. I like how the study guide doesn't seem to cover unnecessary information and is much easier to digest than the MERM. My only concern is that his guide may not cover all of the material in enough detail for the exam - but maybe I'm just being paranoid :).

Material/Study tips for October 2019 , ME TFS PE Exam

Unfortunately I don't have time for Dr Tom's, as it's a 20 week course and the exam is in 14 weeks. Did you do the Live Online or OnDemand class for testmasters?

Material/Study tips for October 2019 , ME TFS PE Exam

Why don't you have a good feeling? I'm considering testmasters live online class and will have to pay out of pocket, so I'd like to make sure I don't waste $1500 lol. I will also be taking TFS in October. I have the MERM, tabbing it as I go, MERM Practice Problems book, Quick Reference book, an...

Targeted Study Approach and Practice Problems?

Hey All, new to the forum, but have visited here and there in the past. I'm currently studying for the October PE Mechanical Thermal Fluids exam, and am a bit overwhelmed with the amount of information in the MERM. I'm targeting Fluids, Thermo, Heat Transfer and HVAC sections, but there are...
