    Structural Problem for AM

I looked through my old college concrete and structures binders and couldn't find any examples that presented a dead load in this way. It seems to me they should have said flat out that the dead load is the weight of the slab or had the arrows within the slab. Normally we got a uniformally...

    Transportation AM

Of the 20 breadth sample problems in the 6 min sol. book, 5 are worthless traffic analysis questions no longer part of the morning exam. The remaining 15 cover construction & horizontal/vertical curves. A couple of the 15 referenced material not in the CERM, from what I could tell. So that...

    Cubic Yard Abbreviation

If I abbreviated the method of payment cubic yards with CD on a bid schedule or basis of bids for a project, I'd have every contractor in the area calling me to ask what the heck was the matter with me. 'everyone in the business...' yea right.

    HP 33s

I'm disappointed to see there's this smack talk about the HP 33s, I got mine while studying for the FE exam in 2006 after someone told me that RPN was the way to go to become more efficient at calculating, i've only had to replace the batteries once and havent had any problems with it.... whoa...

    Study system summary.

Last night I was reworking the depth NCEES WR/ENV problems. I'm going to be doing what willsee decribed above. For each of the problems, I'm annotating where in the CERM to go to find the equation/subject, (i.e. hydraualic jump, spillway flow eqns.). Several people on the forum have stated...

    It's Friday!!!!

It's a beautiful Friday here in southeast Missouri, but like on most Fridays, all the PE are out of the office while us EITs stay here to grind away on our projects. That's reason enough for me pass the exam.

Does experience under a PE count before you take your FE?

I know that in Texas the 4 years adds up regardless of when you pass the FE. A buddy of mine that lives in Texas had to retake the FE and all the time working under a PE prior to passing counted towards his four year requirement.

Water Resources / Enviro - Breadth & Depth Index

See the attached index spreadsheet; it has AM and PM tabs. If anyone notices errors or if there are pages for the shaded fields that would be appropriate, please post that info on this thread, or simply upload an improved version. We have 2 precious months left until we take this exam, I don't...

    Study system summary.

I've updated/refined the master index provided by PJ3346, thanks again for sharing that, and have filled in the Morning and WR/ENV Depth Syllabus for the CERM and All-in-one. I'll soon have the Depth Lin and M&E index columns completed. Do me a favor and look at the blacked out Goswami...

    Old Video Games

Back in 1989 I was in fourth grade and at the grocery store there was an arcade game called Heavy Barrel! I got so good at it the I could beat the entire game with one quarter. That was some awesome low cost entertainment.

    Transportation AM

Have you already acquired the blue NCEES sample questions book. The 8 AM transportation questions that come with it are very in line with the morning syllabus and are cake compared to some of the CERM problems.

    Structural Problem for AM

For those of us not taking the structures afternoon exam, we don't have to worry about solving/analyzing indeterminite structures on the exam and so we can completely skip chapter 46 & 47 of the CERM (Structural Analysis I & II). True or False?

how many hours do you work

I'm a 40 - 45 hours a week salary guy. When I pass the October exam and get my PE raise I'm going to shoot for a consistent 50 so that projects with my name attached will have gotten a bit more attention.

    Mock exam question

I came to the same conclusion as Sandtiger 21 above. As we dig down deeper the bottom width gets smaller and so we need to use a different A and R for each depth and recalculate Q from Mannings equation. I did this by trial and error using each of the depth options. The question asked is, at...

    Goswami Errata?

When I started studying the first thing I did was go to the ppi website. The site created a schedule of CERM chapters to study based on the exam I entered when I created my profile. It helped me weed out all the chapters I can ignore.

    Goswami Example 305.11

I think another way to answer this question is that Soda Ash (Na2CO3) is used to remove noncarbonate hardness only, not carbonate hardness, carbonate hardness removal is performed using lime (Ca(OH)2); interestingly enough lime is also used for noncarbonate hardness. 'Magnesium Bicarbonate...
