    Reference/Manuals/codes for AM/Water Resources PM

Two of my coworkers tell me they looked into no other book but the CERM on exam day, both took WR/ENV and passed first attempt.

    NCEES problem #108

When you consider the moments about A, the horizontal force Fx 10' above ground is what you are solving to obtain. The axial force, the force along the alignment of the brace (at 45 deg.) is the Resultant of it's x and y components. Remember that R=(x^2+y^2)^.5. Anyway, just need to translate...

NCEES 2008 Water Resources No. 117

No hay de qué, a tu servicio. At least on exam day if we're given Q and TDH we'll know exactly what to do.

NCEES 2008 Water Resources No. 117

Table 18.8 on pg 18-10 of the 11th CERM shows common synchronous speeds (n values), in the U.S. The frequency is typically 60Hz. So from this table highest assumption would be 3600 instead of 1800.  For Q=10cfs (4488.3 gpm) and TDH = 1200', specific speed is 591 for n=1800 or 1183 for n=3600...

NCEES 2008 Water Resources No. 117

This type of problem sounds really familiar, is 'specific speed' mentioned at all in the solution? I have a copy of the 10th CERM here at the office and on page 18-13, Example 18.5 solves for specific speed using equation 18.28 and uses table 18.9; for a specific speed of 595 - radial vane is...

    i am considering civil engineering

And don't forget, if you want to be a licensed professional engineer, which all Civil Engineer's should be, you have to take 2 huge exams. They're both 8 hours long and have the tendency to make people feel like they've been beaten to a bloody pulp afterwards. Many people have to retake the...

Should I major in civl or environmental engineering?

Where I work, the Civil Engineering Dept. has several PEs and EITs, the Environmental Dept. is much smaller and it can perform all it's work without a PE.

    V-notch equation

The NCEES 2011 sample question #512 is a gimme question because it's 90 degrees, in the CERM it straight up says Q=2.5*H^2.5. If theta is some other value, then without correcting it, the All-in-one is going to cost us this point. The equation should include tan(theta/2), not tan(2*theta). I...

    NCEES sample questions - 2011; #111

Thanks for clearing that up; I nearly blew a gasket when i got to the end of your first post. In this sentence: 'it takes about 10 times the wall movement to develop full passive resistance as it takes to develop the full active forces.' how is the 'development' of those forces manifested, soil...

    NCEES sample questions - 2011; #111

I've reread the CERM and All-in-one chapters on retaining walls and am still having issues.  I'm having trouble with the statement: 'The lateral strain required to fully mobilize the soil passive pressure is much greater than that required to fully mobilize the soil active pressure.' According...

    So how was it?

Thanks for that response. I've been trying to get a grip on what to expect on test day and I think that'll be my last question on that issue.  And, That's a cool pic of you and your boy.  To summarize what I've learned so far:    Each person's PE exam experience is unique. Success or failure...

    So how was it?

Something I've been wanting to ask about the April 2011 exam... were the 2011 NCEES sample questions for each depth topic available prior to the exam? If so, I'd like to see opnions on the difficulty level of the exam compared to those sample questions. People have posted that they studied...

    Dealing with Office Expectations

My boss has expressed the same confidence in me. But, the fact that there is a chance I won't pass goes without saying. It'll be crappy but it won't be the end of the world if we get to take it again. Reading all the posts from past test takers, it's like a broken record, the morning is...
