Yeah, that's probably true. I'm glad there wasn't such a thing when I was a kid applying to school. To read that website you would think a 2400 SAT is below the median.

Yeah, there are always examples like that. If it wasn't assumed to be so rare it wouldn't be noteworthy. Obviously, I have no statistics on this. I base it on personal experience and stories from my 2nd favorite website - College Confidential - where people discuss this sort of thing all the...

    14 Questions

I don't think wew totally disagree. I do think it matters a lot more for business school, because buisness school degrees can be a dime a dozen. I know lot's of people with business degrees and MBAs, as well as law school degrees from PoDunk U that are unemployed, underemployed, or working out...

    14 Questions

Well the concept of top 20 is sort of artificial, but for business and law I think it does matter somewhat where you went to school - at least for a first job. I got an MS in Information Systems. Where I went to school you basically took the same curriculum as an MBA and then decided if you...

Yeah, but why isn't Architectural Engineering listed as a separate specialty? It looks like it's included in the "other" category. Or I guess AEs can just check off every box.. :dancingnaughty:

If you're saying you have more than a basic understanding of designing electrical systems for buildings, that could be true. Some Master Electricians could probably say that as well. That's vastly different than having more than a basic knowledge of EE which is what you wrote in your initial...

Culture Crisis - Dr. Starner Jones

Knowing how little people make on public assistance, it is hard for me to believe that they acquire all sorts of luxuries based on welfare. However, the question is whether a person should be supplied free health care without having to make any sort of sacrifice, while others have to pay for it...

Hmmm. Remember this post you made a few days ago - And you want the test to be harder? I think you are getting way too worked up as a result of a few posts on an internet forum. The test is not impossibly hard, which is why they require education and recommnedations to become licensed. But...

Well, I don't know where you went to school, but I looked up the requirements for Cal Poly SLO and I assume they're typical. http://www.catalog.calpoly.edu/2009pubcat/...ept/arce_bs.pdf They require precisely one course in EE - basic lower division circuit theory. By those standards you could...

I've spent a great deal of time on this website defending the AE degree from assaults by a particular idiot. But this statement is absurd. AE majors may know the very basics of these three disciplines, but they certainly do not have the in depth specific knowledge that people with these...

P.E. looking for the light at end of the tunnel

No solution - just sorry to hear that. You sound very qualified. I just reviewed a bunch of applicants today at my job and it is amazing how qualified some people we have to turn away. Far more qualified than I am, I must admit. Hopefully something will turn up, they say the economy is improving.

    Undergrad School

I think it helps for the first job. There are a handful of schools that have nationwide recognition and will get your foot in the door most anywhere - MIT, Caltech, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Cal, RPI, UIUC, etc. Cal Poly SLO sort of falls into that category these days. After that, it becomes...
