Thanks guys! I celebrated my first combat zone birthday with a platoon of Macedonian soldiers who enjoy yellow cake with chocolate frosting sent over from the US. It turned out that my birthday also happens to be Macedonian Independence Day. What a hell of war/birthday!

I was in a briefing room when we got the first reports on the BBC. My wife grabbed my daughter as soon as the house started to shake. My daughter looked at her like she was crazy and kept eating her snack.

We'll folks it looks like my time arrived and I am now deployed to a combat theater (Afghan) of operations. I'm in a very strange place in RC Capital but the boards are accessible so please keep up the funny posts; it's a welcome diversion from the weirdness of the day.
