Electrical PE Exam - Oct. 2017

I feel all sections were not covered in the proportions as specified in specifications. Some appeared more than specified at the cost of others. I was an excellent student during my college and have a very broad band of experience. I have been a good Engineer by all standards since beginning but...

Electrical PE Exam - Oct. 2017

My preparation was purely  based on the information available on the forum and to that effect I was more than 100% prepared. Now I am searching for someone to blame for my failure (if it is) and I find forum is the best choice. Lol. More important was I enjoyed the exam, some of the questions...

    L/L fault question

Best of luck everyone. We discussed a lot of questions here in forum, this time, and I am sure we are going to do well. Mine is first time and it is my mid life rehabilitation. If I do not pass, my kids and wife will pull my leg and so it is more important for me to prove myself. My wife is all...

    Delta connection

Draw the phase quantities first and then take differences of phase quantities to find line quantities. What ever comes comes. It will also depend on sequence etc, so take care but for sequence ABC yes the above statements  are true.

Spin Up 4-75 open circuit test error?

Ok. It is like this. In Oc test you can apply rated Voltage on any side but we apply it on LV side because lower Voltage is easy to handle and and measure. Similarly for SC ckt test, we do it on lower current side (HV side). The question is actually a vague.

    L/L fault question

No worries . Enjoy the Exam.

    L/L fault question

It is used. Total Positive sequence z = Positive of Gen+Positive of Xmer= .2+.1=.3 similarly Total negative sequence z= Neg of Gen+Neg of Xmer=.2+.1=.3 What is left now?

    L/L fault question

IMHO you are mixing two issues. Symmetrical and Non symmetrical faults . This question is about non symmetrical faults and asks about Positive sequence Voltage .

    NEC

@FPar This info I had collected long back while surfing when I even did not know what NEC is, so it went in some corner of some folder and I was just going through the stuff I downloaded during preparation and came across it again. In any case I had planned to have look at all dirt at last...

    Accidentally bought the 2017 NEC....

I have the Code book 2011. I have pdf of 2014 now, but it seems I am okay with the one I practiced with, that is NEC 2011. Anyways I am not expecting that kind of question which is that specific as the changes in these versions. I expect more of a Engineering question then a technician question.

    Accidentally bought the 2017 NEC....

Does it really make so much of difference. I suppose things do not change much.

    L/L fault question

    A small correction V1=Vf-I1Z1
  16. R

    L/L fault question

Please correct. Positive sequence voltage is not Voltage across Z1. In fact V1= V1-I1Z1. In this particular case you are getting the answer right but this may not happen always. See my diagram below. That is the right one.
