    Masters vs Davis & Cornwell

I used Masters because it's what I had from school, and I wholeheartedly second Dleg's recommendation for Salvato's text as a second reference.  You can pick up a used single-volume edition (it's now three volumes); I used an older copy my library had and thought it was incredibly useful.

    Chemicals and Associated Industries?

I have this list posted on my wall (mine is formatted differently because it's 8 years old): http://www.ehso.com/contaminants.htm

NY PE Application Question- Construction Experience

I can't answer your question about using endorsers from municipalities, though that is allowed by NYS if you provide a letter documenting why you're using them as an endorser. I had one job over my four years of experience (with increasing responsibilities) and I only had one endorser, my...

Semiconductor industry, no PEs to work under?

Some states don't require that you work under a PE - NYS is one. Looking briefly at the TBPE website, it looks like you're required to have 3 PE references but it's possible to have references from people you did not work for, so perhaps you could get references through a professional...

    Average pay raise after PE

People work in different industries and different locations, and salary is not the same across the board. I have 8 years of experience and my PE license and I only make $65k, but I like my job, that's a decent wage in a low COL area, and it's typical for my type of work and area. You live in a...

    Non-traditional students

NYS doesn't require that you wait 4 years after graduation. You just need to meet the 12 years of combined educational and work experience requirement. I highly recommend you review the state board website or call and talk to someone. http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/pels/pelic.htm#educ FYI, NYS...

    Emerging Engineers & Surveyors

I applied. I got asked for additional information after the initial submission, basically having you elaborate on why you'd be a good fit and why you wanted to participate. The most recent email I got said they were hoping to have the decision made by Monday, 5/18. Like Ramnares, I...

Will the PE exam move to CBT in near future?

The testing centers have said they don't want to be responsible for checking references and making sure examinees aren't writing in their books. I guess it sounds like it's manageable based on the CA exams, but that's what I heard from NCEES a couple years ago.

    October 2015 PE Exam

Yeah, that would make that difficult then. :)

    October 2015 PE Exam

I'm sure you know the application deadline and I don't remember what state you're from, but the NYS deadline is Friday. It doesn't hurt to apply before the deadline anyways!

    Any April 2015 test takers?

My exam in 2012 was nearly exactly 50% qualitative, I would say. I touch on tons of different regulations at work so I think that was something that really helped me pass - I know a little about a lot of stuff!

Speeding up time to solve problems

I did it in 2 4-hour blocks about a week apart and thought that was reasonable. I didn't burn out and it gave me a good feel for what the exam would look and feel like.

Should I bring OSHA regs for Civil AM test?

The NCEES candidate agreement says you won't copy or disclose questions orally or in writing, including online. It does not say you cannot discuss content of the exam in a general sense or even which topics appeared. I took the Environmental exam, not the Civil/WRE, but some of the topics are...

Leave Books In Exam Room During Lunch?

I wouldn't worry about how you're dressed. I wore jeans, a t-shirt, and a fleece jacket, and I also took my shoes off. I believe NYS prohibits hooded jackets (along with lots of other things like water and hard candy that NCEES would otherwise allow). Read your admission paperwork and follow it.

Speeding up time to solve problems

I swear by the 3-pass system. I got all the low-hanging fruit, solved the ones I knew how to do, and then had an hour or more left to attempt the ones I knew would be hard. That way I didn't get hung up on anything and accidentally waste too much time. I know some people worry about messing...

PDH units for PE license renewal

If you can get approval to go to a conference, you can often get 8 credits a day. Training courses too. Otherwise there are online courses offered through companies and professional organizations. IEEE has a website about continuing education, for example.

    HVAC?

I took the exam 3 years ago and agree that you don't need to know anything from those chapters. I just flipped through my 2nd edition EERM and I might have had a question about fan power or efficiency...those equations look familiar but I don't use them at work. I wouldn't waste studying time...

Suggestion for how to carry in books?

I brought a suitcase (1 size up from a carry on). I wish I had done the milk crate/hand cart method. The suitcase was so heavy, it would have been nice to have it broken into the smaller crates. They let me keep the suitcase next to me, but I happened to be seated at the end of a row...

Option for taking early PE exam

This is exactly how NYS works, although they have a very complicated scheme for calculating education and experience credits based on what degrees you have. Practically anyone can sit for the FE with a comination of education and/or work experience, and you can take the PE anytime as long as...
