    Happy birthday Chaos!!!

Thanks guys. I've been around, but the new job has more internet restrictions than the old one. It was a great B-day, the bosslady took me to Ruth's Chris for dinner, which was awesome.

That's not what Wanda told me when I called a few weeks back with another question, but maybe you're right.

Including the AE board office. All things considered, given the extent of the flood, if they show up a week or two after everyone else's I'd be pretty happy. And the test-taking and registration fees in TN aren't that bad, its the annual priviledge tax that sucks. Just wait till you start...

    Industry or Consulating firm?

Or you could just work for a company with much lower overhead, where instead of a multiplier of 3, its closer to 1.5. Just a thought.

    Grocery Shopping

I looked at 2009, and we spent around $85 / week at the supermarket, which includes both food and stuff like detergent and paper towels. That's for 2 adults. I'd say we eat out on average of twice a week for dinner (usually one "cheap" and one "nicer"), and one lunch a week for each of us, but...

Do you think engineers are on the way to becoming “cheaper by the dozen”?

The nurse, of course. They are much cheaper and easier to replace than the doctor.

Do you think engineers are on the way to becoming “cheaper by the dozen”?

I'm not sure about "medical technologists" (did you mean physician's assistants?), but I'm pretty sure for a nurse to prescribe medicine, they have to be a licensed nurse practitioner, which requires an advanced degree (masters), not just a bachelor degree and the passing of an exam. I could be...

    Nuke jobs

Most of the nuke maintenance supervisors here are typically guys that worked as union tradesmen that decided to jump over to management. Typically they are craft supervisors based on their skilled trade. However, some of our ops supervisors are degreed engineers. (we're not a nuke power plant...

    The Nuclear Option

No problem, and you're right, at some point, there would be some mining. I'm just saying that would be significantly less that what would be required for coal for the equivalent amount of energy produced.

    The Nuclear Option

That depends on how much downblending happens to supply fuel, which doesn't require mining. Also, there is a lot (a whole lot) more energy in a pound of U than in a pound of coal.

    The Nuclear Option

I once shared some office space with some guys doing fusion research. Those guys operated on a whole other plane. They were scary smart, but couldn't figure out how to make coffee.

    The Nuclear Option

That was (one of) the point(s) of developing breeder reactor technology in the 70s. Too bad it got killed by Carter. Besides, whats wrong with sticking it in a big hole in the ground we spent hundreds of millions, if not a billion, designing and building. Thats what Europe does, and we all know...

LANL or Sandia, perhaps? To answer your question, my situation is kind of similar. There are times I have thought I should get my commercial pilots license and go fly for a living, or move to the caribbean and open a bar (or both!). But I mainly work to live. I make a pretty good wage, and have...

When to start looking or change your attitude?

Thats just crazy talk. If they bill the time to the client, you should get your piece. Thats why I left my first job out of college, and haven't looked back since. Good luck with the job hunt.
