for MD depth the ashrae book is probably a waste, but you may get to open it once or twice in the morning. I got much more mileage out of the charts than the fundamentals book. I agree with the others on shigley being very useful in the MD depth, make sure you spend some time using it to study...

I never did any of the 6 min books... so I can't really address that, I can say that the NCEES practice test is very realistic in terms of difficulty.

power = force x velocity... so lbf is correct... of course, we are on earth, so g ~ gc; thus lbm(g/gc) ~ lbf... but you certaintly need to keep track of your units, and the book not showing this step is poor form.

I'm going to go with yes on this one... The thing that I always had to remind myself on the exam was that they love to give too much information in the questions... don't over think it, and dont be afraid to NOT use some of the numbers provided.
