what to eat for breakfast on the day of the exam ?

Apparently the girl sitting next to me had a lot of carbonated soda, since she kept burping into her mouth and blowing it out. She wasn't even tryign to hide it either! Disgusting. But I'm not angry at her because after the afternoon session she said she didn't even have a chance to bubble in...

    Funnies at the exam?

I hope that guy got the names or the proctors and complained to NCEES and your/his state board. That is at the very least unprofessional and at worst harassment.

    Why continue to censor?

Protect NCEES IP by resisting the temptation to talk about the test, and protect your IP by registering and browsing through a proxy.

    REMEMBER YOUR CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT

I know what you two are talking about. I did feel much more confident in the AM than the PM in general. I also think I might know at least one topic you are referring to that was a shock. I guess I was lucky that I took a course in college that covered this, and I had my old notes with me...

Submit exam feedback to NCEES - time is almost up

I'm not sure if someone has posted about this already, but after doing some digging I believe that there is a limit of 10 days from the time you take the PE exam during which you can submit feedback to NCEES through your account on their website (NCEES.org, not this website). If you plan to...

I'm really bummed.... (yes another pencil thread - sorry)

Darn you people! Now I have been sucked into this pencil obsession. I'm going to have to dig through the drawers at my parents house to see if I can find my old FE pencil. But I am not very optimistic that I will find it. At least I have my PE pencil. Do you think I should mount it inside a...

    What occupation do engineers marry?

It works out very well for us. We are both very disciplined with finances, a police officer is used to dealing with "childish" behavior (good for the kids and sometimes the spouse), and our house is more well-armed than some police departments.

How many people left your exam early?

I generally use every single minute given during standardized tests. It has always worked for me. I am usually "in the zone" during a test and don't bother to notice who is leaving, but I strongly disagree with leaving early. Oh, and hopefully a moderator will be around shortly to take care...

    What occupation do engineers marry?

My spouse is a police officer.

    What color was the pencil?

I could answer your question, considering the NCEES writing instrument I used is now sitting on top of my dresser at home, but unfortunately I feel it would be too specific and would therefore violate the agreement. Actually, I don't remember right now. I'll have to look when I get home. I...

    Errors in Camara Sample Exams?

how does identical X/R ratios help you find impedance?

I have stopped studying, but I figured I'd try one more question just in case there is an easy answer/formula that someone can throw at me. In Camara's sample exam, problem 152 gives the MVA of a generator and a transformer (fed from the generator). Voltage is given and the transformer...

    Errors in Camara Sample Exams?

Don't worry, there are several errors, and all of them are not on the errata.

aren't "slide in" binder covers technically a violation?

Many of you might think this is a ridiculous thing to bring up. I have several binders with the transparent plastic sleeves where you can insert paper for the binder cover. Since it is not bound or glued, isn't this technically grounds for dismissal from the exam? Is anyone in here paranoid...

3 phase power factor correction -> Capacitance

Use the formula Q=V^2/X where V is the voltage across one capacitor, which may be line-to-line or line-to-neutral, depending on how it is connected. I would personally assume line-to-line if they don't say how it is connected, but do so at your own risk. The only difference for 1 phase vs 3...

3 phase power factor correction -> Capacitance

I believe the concensus here was that the formula you show in step 1 doesn't make any sense because we can't see how it is derived or where it came from. Let us know if you figure out how to derive it somehow.

3 phase power factor correction -> Capacitance

Not wishing to trash Camara (although I do have to say he LOVES his Wheatstone Bridges), but I believe there may be errors that have not been reported. For example, on exam 1 problem 38 the solution says that option B is true, which says "per unit impedances on T1 (a transformer) differ from...

    autotransformers- NCEES #525 and #535

I'm not exactly sure, but I just decided to look for it since NCEES mentioned it on that one problem.

3 phase power factor correction -> Capacitance

snerts50, I wouldn't be so quick to accept that formula with root3 in it. I am still unsure about it, and I am leaning towards what Insaf has proposed, which is use V^2/X for either case, with V either being line-to-line or line-to-neutral, depending on how it is set up. I have not been able...
