    New California Requirements

Yeah, no kidding. I work with (1) SE, and he's not licensed as such in the state I'm taking the SE exam in. Fortunately, it looks like Washington doesn't have the same requirement for a minimum number of SE references.

I Hate Capitalized Letters at the Beginning of Words

My wife (a transcriptionist/editor) hates it as well. I'm not entirely certain where I picked up the habit, but it's just too ingrained in me to stop now.

How many people left your exam early?

As I recall, I left the morning session something like an hour early and the afternoon an hour and a half. I generally agree with the idea of staying, double-checking work etc, but I'd already triple-checked each tests and found only one answer I changed (on my second pass). I passed.

    FE Experience

If you don't mind my asking, how are you trying to qualify? by experience only, or are you a graduate from an Engineering or similar program? I've considered going the other direction - I have a PE, I could go to college to get an Architecture degree - but decided it wouldn't be worth it for...

How much did you spend on your PE license frame?

Nothing; the company I work for had purchased larger frames that can hold 3-4 certificates each. When I leave, I'll probably get a decent but not incredible one.

    funny pic thread

There's a reason I love working in the University District.

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

Not everything. Sometimes they don't tell you they changed it 8 months ago until today... and oh by the way the inspector is on his way over, can you approve this? I've gotten no less than 5 calls of that nature this week *and last week*, and (as the IT person in our office) I'm also dealing...

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

When I run into that, I tend to just smirk a bit. I think I annoyed the office manager when I did that earlier today (I'm our IT dept.)

Who was the worst President since the Depression

Indeed. The current form of government is probably ideal or near-ideal. Oh, it's by no means perfect, but it's a lot better than anything else that's been tried. Speaking personally, I think it could be made much better by making the following (some very significant) changes: -Redistribute...

Who was the worst President since the Depression

Except that there's no reason except bigotry to deny LGBT couples the right to marry - we can have kids (via surrogates, donors, in vitro or adoption), we can raise kids (in some cases better than straight couples, according to a somewhat flawed 2010 study), and ... what other than that is...

How Old was Your First Car?

No, I know what KIA stands for, hence why my friends called it a deathtrap waiting to happen.

Who was the worst President since the Depression

Also breaking it up. How do you justify the support of stem cell research (I assume you mean fetal stem cell research, since adult stem cell research has continued unabated), while removing government funding for abortion? More importantly, how do you justify taking funding away from Planned...

How Old was Your First Car?

Nah, I've had friends call it a deathtrap (due to the acronym) since the day I got it.

    Gifts for Civil Engineer girlfriend

Absolutely agree, I started with hand drafting and moved swiftly into CAD. Of course, I'm not very *good* at hand drafting - these days I won't produce anything except a rough preliminary sketch by hand out of embarrassment - but having the basics really helps. Edit: And if you're buying a...

How Old was Your First Car?

Well, for what it's worth - it's the best built car I've ever driven.

How Old was Your First Car?

'93 Ford Escort, purchased in 2000. Followed by a '94 Buick LeSabre in 2002, a '92 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme in 2002, and finally an '04 Kia Spectra in 2003. Car accident trashed the Escort. Wasn't worth fixing; it was driveable, but the radiator was toast. The phrase "Sieve" comes to mind...

    I like big butts

This kind of thing is very common, especially in the transgendered community. There are a lot of transwomen out there that are dissatisfied with what the typical medical process gives us, and they get people to do injections of silicone - horribly unsafe ones. They're called Pumpers.

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

I'm behind on projects, and a coworker is out this week. So of course we have an urgent non-engineering thing that needs to be done, and it gets handed off to me (it was originally MIA-coworker's thing.) I spent *6 hours* on it. And got very frustrated. And dropped a cluster F bomb at work...

    $20 Per Gallon

Yeah, no. Let them take buses or ride bikes, like I did as a kid and a young adult - I didn't get my driver's license until I was 20.

Would I survive a nuclear strike?

Dead, anytime something hits cities of 100k or more. Doesn't matter if it's a small or huge nuke; both home and work are well within the blast radius either way.
