    WA license numbers

If I remember correctly, it took them almost exactly 3 weeks when I passed. I remember I was checking daily. I do remember that I didn't get the wall cert for a long time, though. Keep in mind that the people that send out the letter are different than the people recording it into the system...

Is this your pet peeve too?

Makes sense. I think that's probably why most people don't use "Engineering Intern" in their titles. I know, it just seems ridiculous when you see unlicensed "Engineers" working for contractors.

Why are you an Engineer, and more importantly....

I fell into Engineering; if I could do my life over again, I'd probably do Engineering the *easy* way, through college (with a Master's), rather than skipping college. If I didn't do Engineering, I'd become a Civil Rights-oriented lawyer or a pastor.

Is this your pet peeve too?

In every state I know the rules of, he's violating the law. "Structural Engineer" is a legally restricted term; unless he has an SE, he can't use it. Oregon restricts the usage of the term "Engineer". I have a Washington license, but not an Oregon one - and when I worked in Oregon I wasn't...

What was your favorite fictional spacecraft?

Movies? Serenity. TV Shows? If stations count, Babylon 5. If they don't, the Andromeda Ascendant. Books? I don't remember the name of it, but it's in Exiles to Glory by Jerry Pournelle - it's a water tank that the heroes make modifications to (so they can escape the asteroid they're...

    FBI Job interview

This has probably been posted before, but I'm not going to go back and search. This answer to a college chemistry exam was sent to me recently and restores my faith in the new generation of college students. The answer was purportedly in response to the bonus question on a University of Arizona...

    First Interview

Heh. One of the benefits of being a computer geek: When I run into an abbreviation I don't recognize, I just Google it. Still, I think I'll provide an abbreviated list, since I've been doing this for twelve years at an average of a project a week for most of that time.

    Dirty Laundry

I've been using ALL Free & Clear for a while. Too many companies use citrus products in their cleaning supplies.

    First Interview

Thanks. No CV to give, since I got my license via experience only. I think I will take a handful of sanitized calcs, but only because I wrote or updated the spreadsheets for most of what we use. Thanks everyone.

    First Interview

I've never been through a "professional" interviewing process - when I was hired at my current place of employment, it was as much about the fact that I could handle their network as it was that I could handle their drafting needs. Engineering didn't even enter into the equation. I have an...

Structural engineer's mistake could take down firm

Yeesh. Yeah, people screw up, but this is the kind of screwup I just can't wrap my head around. I do take exception to the concept that it was "designed like a barn" - I do my best to make sure my barns (and houses, storage sheds, schools, bridges, office and retail buildings etc) have a...

looks like NCEES could help out the medical world

I think it makes sense; those are the direct costs for writing the questions.. but then there's going back through and discounting the question from those that took the exam, regrading it, reprinting the next book, being unable to reuse that question in the next exam (limiting choices that may...

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

True. I suppose it's one of those spoken-written differences; being called dude (by a person) doesn't bother me in the slightest, but being called dude online drives me crazy, because people assume I'm male. No, I'd say never. Was the ugly duckling ever really a duck?

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

I'm going to a NP because my insurance - and all other insurances available in my state - excludes my single biggest issue. Given that I will have upwards of $30k in medical bills in the next four years and I'm working part-time at the moment, a NP that costs 50% of the doctor makes a lot more...

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

Must. Restrain. Fist. Of. DEATH. Beware the dreaded WALL OF TEXT. Summary: Nurse Practitioner (NP) causes me massive disruptions in my life, and is in general incompetent and incredibly frustrating. Not covered: She's nearly killed my wife, twice in two weeks. About 5 or 6 months ago, my...

Wkipedia and other sites shut down for the day

Pretty much the entire tech industry is against this bill; Facebook, Google, AOL, Ebay, Twitter... The only exception that I know of is the people that run Fark.com (news aggregation, not ****); they've indicated that they are for it - they figure it's the only way they can take some time off...

    PE/SE Licensing in IL

    1. This varies based on state. OR/WA/CA, whom I am most familiar with, require full experience prior to exam - though you can register for the exam before meeting the requirements (I did, to meet the deadline for my exam) as long as you meet them the day of the exam. Not all states do that...

    "Unacceptable" vs. "Improvement Required"

The essay part's the part that bothers me the most, since I tend to skip around or do things in unusual ways sometimes. Also, how much do they worry about handwriting? Any? "If it's legible it's OK"?
