    PE and Money

Regarding a non-compete contract... it's only worth what they pay you to sign it. In most cases this is typically $0. So they can pretty much be disregarded when you terminate your employment. As long as you are not doing anything unethical (ex: bad mouthing your previous employer, stealing...

BE Aware of School of PE

Lol at darius for thinking a company should operate like a charity. Good luck on your business growth goals of 2014. To Prg1000, take the test before you ask School of PE to let you sit for the course again. If you pass, great -- you're done. If you fail, they let you re-take the course for...

    So, how did it go?

Sounds like you did well -- hopefully you passed. My work experience is entirely outside of "standard" structural engineering (blast, impact, fire, etc.) so I had to study by butt off to pass the SE. But I can see how, if you do this every day, you could get by with the amount of studying you...

    So, how did it go?

    This. Sorry man.

    So, how did it go?

Nice. BSCE 07 and MSSE 09 So I expect with your background you'll pass this time with no issues :) But about the TX SE... I wonder what is going on because we are always well below the NCEES averages for passing rates... http://www.tbpe.state.tx.us/exam_passfail.htm...

    So, how did it go?

Thanks! Also very cool -- I went to Lehigh for my BS and MS :)

    So, how did it go?

I passed the PE and SE in TX. They gave a grade on the PE (92% or something) when I passed. The SE just said "Acceptable" or something like that. Also originally from PA (Shillington) :)

TX structural engineer checking in -- would be interested to hear more for sure.

    PE and Money

Huh... maybe I need to look into my options here... I am a structural engineer doing specialty consulting work (complex designs and analysis for wind, seismic, blast, etc.) and have a BSCE, MSSE, and half-way through a part-time PhD in CE at UT and I have my TX PE and should officially have my...

ASD vs. LRFD NCEES sample exam prob. 801

Typically, yes you are correct. And as I said in my previous post you can think of a cantilever as being similar to a simply supported member of twice the length. Feel free to derive the relationship but they have exactly the same moment and similar deflections. Anyway, that said, you can look...

ASD vs. LRFD NCEES sample exam prob. 801

    1. You should be using ASD 2. A 4-ft cantilever wall would not typically be considered slender. Slender walls are affected by P-delta by definition. Your solution, first of all, does not account for the P-delta effect of dead load on the moment demand. Second, a uniformly loaded cantilever...

    Passing score ?

Yes -- this is true. Numerical score only for passing. Breakdown and score for failing.

    Afternoon - Code Reference

I put the code sections I wanted to reference in brackets on the right margin. If you have time this helps your reviewer know where you were pulling your info and, even if you've made errors in your calcs due to rushing, you still show you know the applicable sections of the code to use. My...

    PE and Money

Dark Knight -- I think you're misrepresenting a few things. First, no one said you'd "get rich" as an engineer. That does not mean, however, that you will not have the opportunity to live a comfortable life that is far above average. You can make good money as an engineer. Very good...

    How ready do you feel?

I found lateral pretty difficult in comparison to vertical. I am a structural engineer but I do not do "conventional" design work and only loosely work with the typical codes. As a result, study times required for me were much higher... My first time I took both exams. Probably studied 200...

Definitely be active in the conversation. Do your research. Know your worth. As you probably already know from this thread you can find salary info... -- On websites (salary.com, glassdoor.com, engineersalary.com, etc.) -- The NSPE has a report you can buy that will give breakdowns by...

    Morning Structural Exam Ridiculousness

Awesome congrats man! Now get your nose in those books and study hard so there's no chance of another failure. You got this!

    Let the nervous countdown begin

I can see that -- just providing the other side of things :) Unfortunately for me... I don't use any of the codes on a day-to-day basis. Pretty much all engineering from first principles and dynamics. So I hate all the questions equally :)
