When you cool your house down at night?

+1 for the attic fan. Ours came with the house, so no idea on the install but from the look of it they just shoehorned it between the joists and pulled from the nearest circuit for power. Probably easier to install than the ceiling fan I put in a few months ago...

Comity in Massachusetts & NCEES record

I just filled these out and I used home addresses for everyone. When you get to the next step (after payment) it gives you a bunch of forms to mail out, and the addresses you entered are filled out in those. They don't mail anything for you, you have to do it yourself. I figured that the address...

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

We have a half-decent medical plan, and my wife was in for some GI distress recently. We were in the ER for about 2 hours total, and didn't get any procedures. They did give her a scan, though. Bill came to over 2 grand (out of pocket) and without insurance would have been close to five figures...

Where are you getting your stamps?

That looks like a regular rubber stamp, that you would need to also get an ink pad. They also make ones where it has the ink pad built in and it flips around and re-inks itself every time. Everybody at my office buys the self-inking as we stamp a lot of sheets and it gets old to use a pad after...

Sharing ground on multiple circuits (NEC)

Yes, you can share a ground, see 250.122C

Sharing ground on multiple circuits (NEC)

The code requires each branch circuit to have an equipment ground (either a wire, or conduit, or cable tray as in 250.120A), they can be shared when they are in the same raceway. If all the 20A circuits are in one raceway then you just need one ground. If circuits are fed to a separate building...

Sharing ground on multiple circuits (NEC)

It sounds like your ground bar is connected to some kind of grounding electrode system in the housing, so I would be inclined to say no, you can't use it as an equipment ground because you have the possibility of a ground loop from the housing ground back to the main grounding electrode.

Where are you getting your stamps?

Seal and and stamp will produce the same emblem with the state border and your name and number, but the seal embosses it into the paper where the stamp is just ink.

Where are you getting your stamps?

I got a pre-inked stamp from A-Plus (engineerseals.com referenced above) and it came within 2 days. I meant to order the self-inking one that swivels, and when I called the next day after I placed the order and told them as much, I got Sandi (the owner) on the phone and she told me since it...

    Where is colorado

I received the wallet card in the mail the other day, went down to the office supply store and got some of that self-adhesive laminating paper. I had to trim off part of the card to get it small enough to actually fit in my wallet... But managed to do that without taking out any of the pertinent...

(Help!) Preparing for October Exam (Power) Any guidance greatly appreciated

I'll throw my .02 here, to add to others. Here's how I prepared: First thing I did was look up the exam specs and print out that page. Then I came on here and looked through all the (extensive!) info that's been posted about reference and study materials. Digested a lot of that and started...

    &........ Taxes....................

It seems like the average engineer salary is right in that neverland where you're in a higher tax bracket, but you don't make enough to make it worth it.

    The Automotive Thread

It's nice to hear that GM parts are still somewhat interchangeable. I remember my high school days helping my friend tinker with his 87 Camaro RS (with the anemic 305). The funniest "mod" we did was to fashion somewhat of an open air intake by using a filter cover from a small GM V6, which fit...

What is your work environment as an Engineer

Yeah, if you're in consulting I think most firms are pretty similar. All the colleagues I've kept in touch with seem to have about the same environment, although some companies keep their employees much busier (e.g. they keep their staff trimmed below what it should be and just load everyone up).

Map: April 2014 PE Results Released

Thanks for the map! This is a great resource. Based on the past 3 exams, Colorado's results were released in (# of days): 40, 45, 56. So, based on this extensive dataset, I predict October candidates in CO can expect their results roughly sometime between December and the first manned Mars...

    Where is colorado

Confirmed, results are on NCEES dashboard now. Strange, the state chose to update their own board before updating NCEES board.

    Where is colorado

They might still be rolling them out. Who knows. They were already almost 3 weeks behind the game, so I wouldn't lose hope till you find out for sure.
