Complex Imaginary Test 1 Problem 1

It was a 3-Phase AC circuit before it was rectified, but now it's a pulsating DC circuit. The temptation to treat this like a run-of-the-mill 3-Phase AC circuit is why this problem would be a good one to include on a real PE exam, except one of the wrong solutions would be the result of the...

NEC / Complex Imaginary Voltage Drop Confusion

No, that's not the rule. Even the NEC approximation includes the phase angle (by way of the power factor).

I failed the POWER PE Please Help!

    1. Yes, it's true you cannot bring any writing utensils into the exam hall. They provide a mechanical pencil with an eraser. 2. Yes, you get a scantron and a test booklet. You are only permitted to write, scribble, or otherwise mark ONLY those two items. If you are seen marking anything in your...

Why Six Minutes per Question is a Sham

Ha! Just a couple?! It felt like half of my afternoon session questions fell in the "WTF" category, which was not a Spin-Up category, but nicely summarizes my feelings about them. My last problem was definitely a WTF question. When the proctor announced, "Five minutes left," I took the last 4...

Why Six Minutes per Question is a Sham

Ha! I suppose you're right. I had this one problem that I could not figure out how to set up to save my life. It seemed like I had everything I needed to get to work, except I was missing a key variable. No matter how many different approaches I tried, I would be missing yet another key...

Why Six Minutes per Question is a Sham

The other benefit of ranking (for me, anyway) was I didn't work problems sequentially. I skipped around, so having problems ranked on the scantron allowed me to quickly identify what the "next" problem is.

Why Six Minutes per Question is a Sham

Sounds like we did the same thing, but worded it differently.

Why Six Minutes per Question is a Sham

I used Spin-Up's approach and it served me well.  Summary for those unfamiliar with Spin-Up: First Pass: low-hanging fruit - requires little to no time/effort to answer. Generally less than 30 seconds invested. Second Pass: all code-related questions. I thought this was especially helpful, as...

    Whatcha Playin?

I'm playing The Witcher 3 on console atm. Finished the main quest and working through the expansion packs right now. I picked up one called "State of Decay" recently and it's pretty damn good. it's a zombie apocalypse game. You cannot manually save the game, nor load any auto-saved files, so...

    International Building Code

It's not in the exam specifications, so I would ignore it. You're going to be busy enough studying what is actually in the exam specs.  I also took the NCEES Practice Exam, but I failed that thing so hard and I got discouraged by that because I studied for four months before I even cracked it...

    Branch Manager vs Department Manager

I like being paid and everything, so I'm not saying compensation isn't important, but it's really important to me that I like my job, that I have a good work/life balance, and that I have room for upward mobility.  If the compensation offer is the same, make a "Pros and Cons" list of both...

    RIP Batman

These reruns played when I was a kid, and I watched them, rather than some of the other afternoon kid TV shows. RIP, Adam West.

    PE passers by age.

I worked full time and went to school part time at night to earn my BSEE. Took me 9 years to finish, and graduated at 40 years old. Took and passed the FE first time at 42 and passed PE first time at 43.
