    Post Exam Period

Thanks for sharing, 100% agree with everything. However, I think studying for SE and passing it does make us a little better engineers :) because it makes us studying the topics that we would probably never touch (like aashto manual) in real life or do hand class for things we have not done...

Well that was fun... now what?

I also wanted to ask everyone, what was the size of desk that you had on your exam? On PE, I had a a very large folding table, something like 36”x72”. This is what I expected to be a standard. On this SE, it was only 17” (!!!) by 60”. I felt extremely squished and was constantly concerned...

    Post Exam Period

Thanks for the heads up! I I also wasted about 10 minutes in AM for looking or solving for information that is already given in a couple of problems. Despite of that, I still managed to go over all problems with only a couple of tough choices I had to make. I would not feel too bad to fail the...

Well that was fun... now what?

That is exactly what it is like for me, a roller coaster of emotions! I did vertical. I left the room for the lunch break with a big smile on my face that no one could see under the mask. I felt about it so strong, even better than the whole PE Structural I passed recently. But then I did a such...

    Post Exam Period

I lost my patience the minute I realized I wrote my pm problem in a wrong pamphlet! I wasted 10 valuable minutes to copy 3 pages of solution to the right one :( . Such a silly mistake to make! I really needed these 10 minutes in my last problem to finish it neatly with a complete solution :(

    Post Exam Period

Forgive me if this question is not ethical or not within the NCEES rules. Could anyone who took SE vertical in the past and took it again this spring provide some feedback about the consistency of difficulty of the exam? I mean do you feel like the difficulty of the exam is pretty consistent...

And strength reduction factors, phi’s! They were real troublemakers on practice exams :)

    Exam Mock-Ups / Studying Advice

Not sure how it is in electrical, but I realized that in PE Civil Structural I had to heavily use codes to answer generic question. If someone wasn’t familiar with the codes and relied heavily on their study binder and books, they probably missed a lot of questions because only codes had a right...

    2021 Engineerboards Salary Survey

I’d be interested to know an approximate location for each salary reported. In the end of the day, it’s all about how much money is left after the bills are paid. Making $30-40 k more at a location where a 3 br house cost 500-700k more might be not as good as it first seems.

Study group for April 2021 exam-16 hour Structural Building

I didn't realize you want to take it this April. Yeah, it is too late for the live class. I'm just taking Vertical. SE is not required in my state and office and I'm doing it out of my pocket. So, there is no rush in taking both, but I definitely want to pass it in the first time. I skipped one...

Study group for April 2021 exam-16 hour Structural Building

I think it is definitely increasing the chance of passing and, therefore, worth the money. I am taking live though. I saved money on PE preparation and took not very well known cheap on-demand PE course and was disappointed in it due to lack of feedback and very limited structural topics. I...

Taking SE Exam without ever taking PE Exam

I think it is a long shot to take SE first. Just look at the passing rates of PE and SE. AM questions in PE exam are very straightforward. After 3 month of good studying, you can pass it. It took me 4 weeks to prepare well for all non-structural topics and 8 weeks for structural topics. I don't...

    Average Age to take FE/PE/SE

In my state, the experience toward licensing is counted from the day you start working with BS degree (+1 year max. of verified experience prior to receiving the degree). You can pass FE and PE and then apply for PE license all in the same year as long as you have 4 years of verified experience...

    Average Age to take FE/PE/SE

Agreed about foreign professionals. I passed my FE at 30 and PE at 33. I'm going for SE for the first time at age of 33-34. Before my FE, I worked in engineering for 8 years, 3 of which were in my home country and 5 are in US. I couldn't take these exam any earlier due to my first non-ABET...

Planning to take the SE Buildings exam in October 2021

I chatted with NCEES. They said they can't provide any information on code updates until after the April exam. It seems very unfair, especially to those who's already studying for the October exam. Just retabing all the codes will be a nightmare....

Study group for April 2021 exam-16 hour Structural Building

Yeah, I mean these topics will be covered later in the class. I just don’t like the steel manual very much. I think other codes have better organization. And I guess I’m just not doing much of complete steel building designs, about 2 per year. The folks in my coastal area either don’t like steel...

From all 4 materials, I’d say probably steel and I have no clue about bridges.

Study group for April 2021 exam-16 hour Structural Building

I registered for Vertical SE. I’m taking AEI course and so far so good, knocking out all the homework and doing some PPI book problems as well for each covered topic. I’m following AEI study schedule and the worst (for me) topics are not covered yet. This makes me concerned a bit. The less days...
