    AEI SE Lectures

I successfully did vertical class for April 2021 and currently in the lateral class for Oct 2021. I don’t know how this is even doable to do both classes and keep up with all lectures and practice problems while you also work full time and, most likely, have a family. This cycle we had to have...

    SE exam after Oct 2021

Does anyone know what will happen to SE exam after this Oct 2021 cycle in non-SE states? This is going to be a last paper exam in a room full of hundreds of exam takers, most of which are taking PE. I’m not so sure states like FL will even offer SE exam after this cycle. Last time I took...

Bridge Problems for the Structural Engineering (SE) Exam - 3rd Edition (AASHTO 8th Edition) now available

SE Bridge Problem book gives you pretty good hands on application of main AASHTO concepts. It lets you get familiar with AASHTO specifications but they are definitely not you study guides and won’t give you a summary of AASHTO topics that you can refer to during the SE exam in AM. This is when...

CA Civil PE practicing structural engineering...

PE Structural doesn’t adequately cover any sort of lateral force resisting systems neither for wind nor seismic. After passing it, I was shocked how little an examinee needs to know about it. Even though requiring an SE exam everywhere for all buildings is a little too much (know from my own...

    Average Age to take FE/PE/SE

Wow, this is the first time I hear someone skipped PE exam and passed SE! why would you need to take a PE exam? States without SE licenses usually still give you a PE license based on SE exam result.

    Average Age to take FE/PE/SE

Interesting, I see quite a few posts saying FE was failed during the senior year. I don’t understand why so many attempt it almost without any studying in the busiest time of their studying life. My hands were so full (job, family, senior design) that I didn’t even think to take FE then...

SE Afternoon concrete and steel problems

I had the whole package they sell for their SE class. I also had a list of homework problems they recommend for their class. I practiced some of PPI HW assignments in topics I did feel very confident about after AEI class. It is not because AEI class was not good enough. It was because I was...

SE Afternoon concrete and steel problems

Agreed. I got both PPI books and AEI class with the binder for the vertical exam. I also got NCEES SE exam book. NCEES exam was definitely not as difficult as the real exam. AEI practice exam was closer to the difficulty of real exam. I used PPI books for extra practice to reinforce some topics...

April 2021 SE Exam Results Thread

Very interesting, thanks, good to know, I was just curious what the older generation of SEs had to go through. Do you know what year they started offering PE Structural 1 and 2 exams? I was told than one old school engineer passed both exams in 70-s or 80-s and I have hard time to believe...

April 2021 SE Exam Results Thread

Thanks for sharing your story! Congrats on passing! The bar is high indeed. I also do not have masters and got a third of your experience. I feel like passing SE would satisfy my desire for professional growth, probably make me stand out in the industry without having any expensive advanced...

April 2021 SE Exam Results Thread

Have anyone done a survey in the past to see what degrees and years of experience SE exam takers have vs how successful their results are? I’m curious how two most important backgrounds, educational and professional, affect exam results.

April 2021 SE Exam Results Thread

Nope, thank you :) I actually enjoyed AASHTO manual, such a well organized document! I liked its all in one format. I wish we have something like that in buildings and then it would be easier for bridge people. I see can how you can be frustrated with so many building codes some of which are so...

April 2021 SE Exam Results Thread

Thanks for sharing. I’m surprised they don’t separate AASHTO problems in the charts. It seems that the main weaknesses in AM are general analysis problems and foundation problems, both probably include ASSHTO problems. How did you feel about AASHTO when you studied?

FL is out. After successful PE exam last fall, I decided to test my skills and took just vertical this time. I passed it! Yeah!

Nice! It’s interesting that you took lateral first time, there are a lot of opinions out there for which one to take first.

April 2021 Post Exam Wait Period - Welcome to the Suck

I had an EIT with PhD... after explaining simple concepts like tributary area for a month, we showed him at the door.... Yes, degree is not the most important thing to have in engineering, but masters at least should give a little better background to start working in a design office.
