SE's (or aspiring SE's), What Kind of Work Do You Do?

I do bridges. I work at a big firm, my state does not require SE. I think it eventually will because neighboring states either require it (IL) or recognize it (KY). We do work in those states so it helps. I have a masters in structures (thesis on seismic of floor diaphragms) and PhD in...

the spring 2023 SE exam waiting game begins!

I agree, I think they should provide this kind of detailed explanation with the sample exam book they sell, specifically in the solutions of the essay problems.

the spring 2023 SE exam waiting game begins!

Four A's don't mean 40. The graders have a rubric, in my theory, an A could be 75% to 100% depending on how well you do (cleanliness, final answer, equations, graphics and etc...). so if you take 21 + 4 x 7.5 = 51 you still fail. on your other example: 33+3 x 7.5+0 = 55.5, borderline fail...

the spring 2023 SE exam waiting game begins!

I think, it is more delicate than that. The graders must be given a rubric consisting of partial credits for final answer, equations and code citations, required graphics, abiding by assumptions, cleanniness and etc... So, you could be and A but get 8 or 9, you could be an IA and get 5 or 6...

the spring 2023 SE exam waiting game begins!

Hopefully you pass this time. If not, I would definitely sit for October. CBT will be a new exam and who knows how it is going to be. I would also sign up as soon as possible because I think the October exam will be a packed field.

the spring 2023 SE exam waiting game begins!

I got my results on 6/15 (took the exam on 4/21) last year (passed vertical bridge in April and then lateral in October 2022). You guys may get the results this week since you took the exam a week earlier.

    Illinois SE by Comity

I passed SE in Michigan (took the exam in IL but registered through Michigan board) and filled the great state of Illinois’s SE application online using my NCEES records. Any experience/idea how long does it usually take to get the approval?

    Illinois SE Certificate

I just passed the SE bridge. I wondered if Illinois mails you an actual certificate with a seal and signature or just an electronic PDF/receipt showing your license number.

Congrats, and I second your AEI recommendation. It is very good.

SE Takers October 2022, Welcome to the suck!

As a bridge engineer, I understand the frustration as this exam is heavily skewed toward building engineers. Don't be disappointed, and you will definitely pass next time.

SE Takers October 2022, Welcome to the suck!

Rumor has it that NCEES sometimes posts the results before sending out the email, is that true?
