Does anyone know how this may effect the western states SE3 or the CA seismic/survey test?

    SE II

Ahh, yes, k = 1 for sure. Embarrassing mistake, I was in the ASD column of Table 4-4 not the LRFD one. The sample test has a few mistakes and it's hard to know which parts to trust sometimes. But thanks for the reassurance, I appreciate it.

    SE II

-yeah, cell towers and rooftop sites... they're everywhere. i haven't looked at that problem lately, i just moved on to other things that i could decipher. the ncees problem manual doesn't go into too much depth about explanation. however i think a problem like this one will likely be on the...

    SE II

For part d, column size determination.... I'm guessing they chose 0.7 for a k value? Top fixed and bottom pinned with L of 14.5 feet, maybe. Would anyone else be able to determine from the diagram that k actually equals 0.7? I'm confused. I think there's other errors in that part, but I'm...

I called Continental Testing yesterday with a question, just got a call back this morning, and apparently they still haven't received the SE 1 results yet, so obviously there's nothing to post or mail out yet with this particular test. The wait is so difficult...

6 minute solutions vs actual SE I exam?

I see what you're saying as far as the code goes for compression steel with the lateral tie requirement. Unfortunately I can't find any other examples that show how to deal with strictly axial loads on reinforced walls using ASD design. I think I'm just going to trust that the example solution...

6 minute solutions vs actual SE I exam?

One more question for you guys.... number 538 in the NCEES SE1 book. I understand that the net area is defined in 2.3.3.3.1 as the least of the center to center bar spacing, 6 times nominal wall thickness, or 72 inches. That makes sense, but the area of the steel is shown on page 136 as 0.8...
