Help us develop and implement strategic company environmental policy!

You will focus on developing, recommending and justifying company environmental policy, primarily involving the Clean Water Act (CWA) and Michigan water quality regulations in coordination with the Director of Environmental Policy & Strategy. This will involve identifying, evaluating and commenting on proposed regulations and communicating their possible impact to Consumers Energy's corporate strategy.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating and developing summaries, points of view, and comments on all federal and state environmental water quality proposed rules, final rules, guidance documents, and legislation
  • Working with government affairs, legal and trade associations in the development of regulatory comments and analysis
  • Serving as a resource to the permitting staff in regard to strategy, interpretation of regulations, and potential negotiations with agencies
  • Significant interface and negotiations with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality as well as some interface with state legislators, local governmental officials, trade organizations (state and federal), and the general public
Job Requirements
Qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, General Science or related field; Masters of Science degree preferred
  • 10–15+ years of increasingly complex experience in the environmental field
  • Knowledge of federal and state water quality regulations
  • Demonstrated success in complex policy and strategy development
  • Superior project management, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Energy industry related experience desired
