Can anyone please explain how this circuit is supposed to work? The diode D2 will block current from positive half of sine wave. The answer in the book says, "...the waveform is typical for this kind of configuration..."!

I would appreciate an answer from anyone, specially from "Complex Imaginary".

I don't think this problem is correct. If it were a center tapped transformer and the resistor were in series with the return path then this would be correct.

I'm curious about this problem as well. Every time I do this problem I choose "C", the output of a full-wave rectifier.

the question is asking what the waveform would look like if the capacitor is open circuit. result is full wave rectifier as cap is not visible to the cct.
