BAE Systems is hiring a Principal Engineer (Safety & Availability, Reliability and Maintainability (ARM)) in UK
Would you like to work on the Type 26 Global Combat ship which starts construction in summer 2017? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Safety & ARM) at our site in Scotstoun, Scotland OR Filton, Bristol.
As a Principal Engineer (Safety & ARM), you will be leading risk-based functional safety and reliability work for a key area of the Type 26 Global Combat Ship. You will develop plans to manage safety and reliability risk, working with Engineering Leads to apply their technical knowledge to assessment and mitigation.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to interface with the central safety team to ensure coherence and consistency in approach.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Safety & ARM) will involve:
Providing safety and reliability leadership and support the engineering team in all related matters
Developing plans and strategies to manage safety and reliability risk
Managing system and functional integrity requirements in relation to safety and reliability risk and the realisation of integrity in the design solution
Assessing safety and reliability risk using a range of methods and tools
Managing safety and reliability, developing and implementing mitigation strategies
Engaging with suppliers to ensure awareness of safety and reliability responsibilities and to ensure effective risk mitigation
Influencing and assuring delivery of safe and reliable systems
Your skills and qualifications:
A background in risk-based functional safety and reliability engineering of complex systems
Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in a technology, engineering or science related discipline
A breadth of experience that shows the ability to think through problems, undertake appropriate analysis and take effective actions in relation to safety and reliability
Experience of a range of analysis tools for assessing safety and reliability, managing hazards and assessing risks
Experience of design phase of complex engineering projects and broader lifecycle experience desirable
