I just saw this in the latest ASCE newsletter. Apparently the Vermont House recently passed a bill that stipulates penalties for, among other things, practicing engineering without a license. Kinda interesting to see how your profession is regulated.

Sec. 21. 26 V.S.A. § 1162(a) is amended to read:
(a) No person shall engage in the practice of professional engineering unless he the person is licensed under or exempt from this chapter. A person found guilty of violating this section shall be fined not more than $1,000.00 or imprisoned not more than 30 days, or both, for each occurrence subject to the penalties provided in subsection 127© of Title 3.
Sec. 22. 26 V.S.A. § 1171©(3) is amended to read:
(3) Of the four members appointed under this subsection, at the time of appointment:
(A) three persons shall have been engaged in the practice of professional engineering for at least 12 years, at least five of which have been in responsible charge of important engineering work; and
( one person shall have become licensed under this chapter after written examination taken in the five preceding years.
Sec. 23. 26 V.S.A. § 1176 is amended to read:
§ 1176. FEES
Applicants and persons regulated under this chapter shall pay the following fees:
(1) Application for engineering license $ 100.00
(2) Application for engineer intern certificate $ 50.00
(3) Biennial renewal $ 100.00
(4) Transient practice permit $ 30.00
