Clarification of the operating range

I have been having this doubt such that supposed I have a board B1 which has an operational voltage that ranges from 36v to 90v and the average operating range is 72v.I also have another operating requirement R1 with a range of 36v and 56v and nominal operating range of 48v but with the functionality same as in B1. So can i replace baord B1 for board R1 without having to do any modification? what is the exact role of the nominal operating range 72V and 48V?
Help me understand
