Senior Engineer – Functional Safety
Would you like to work on the Type 26 Global Combat ship which starts construction in summer 2017? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer – Functional Safety at our site in Scotstoun, Scotland OR Filton, Bristol.
As a Senior Engineer – Functional Safety, you will be supporting the Type 26 Marine Systems Technical Authorities and Systems Integration Lead in planning, coordinating and conducting effective delivery of Product Safety Management.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a high profile contract for the MOD, gaining valuable experience on rare contract.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer – Functional Safety will involve:
- Conducting product safety assessments on behalf of the Marine Systems Technical Authorities including; Fault Tree Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) and Hazard Identification (HAZID)
- Ensuring safety requirements/mitigations are appropriately scoped and captured within the relevant toolsets (DOORS and SMART)
- Producing product safety justification papers and/or system design safety assessments
- Working with the core Product Safety Team, organising and facilitating the Product Safety meetings
- Organising and facilitating HAZIDs, reviewing meetings and contributing to other HAZIDs when required
- Working with the core Product Safety Team to manage the hazards, risks and associated mitigations
- Contributing to the development of the hazard log and the maturity of information contained within it
- Assisting with relevant certification
Your skills and qualifications:
- Degree of equivalent experience in an Engineering of Safety discipline
- Working experience of applying formal hazard/safety assessment techniques and methods such as HAZID, Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOPS), FFA, FHA, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Experience in risk management (including hazard identification, analysis, risk assessment and risk mitigation)
- Previous experience in writing product safety justification papers and safety case reports
- Understanding and experience of the safety analysis of the functional operation of complex systems in a project
