    NCEES Morning 523

Thanks for the advice..... What type of references do you suggest to have on hand? So far I have Marks Standard Hanbook, MERM, and Mechanism Design Textbook (not sure of Author?) Are the MERM steam property tables sufficient or should I have a Thermo Book. ?

    NCEES Morning 523

Ok... Thanks Matt-NM ! I follow it now.. Is it reasonable to assume one should be able to derive an equation like this on the fly during the exam? are the PM MD questions on this level ? thanks

    NCEES Morning 523

Vertical steel Channel (3 bolts) with 500 lb force on the end. When calculating the secondary shear force , where does NCEES's formula come from ? F = 9500 (6) / 2 (36). I know the 9500 is the moment , but I'm guessing on the rest: the 2 is the number of bolts ?(the 3rd bolt is...

    NCEES Morning # 134-136

You were right ! I was reading enthalpy instead of T wet. Thanks . That freaking chart is hard to read.. the lines are so small. I guess blowing it up is a good start... HVAC is my weak subject...really need to get up to speed. Did you find the morning exam divided up pretty evenly between...

    NCEES Morning # 134-136

ok.. plot the points 58 F & 90% RH , and 95F & 47% RH , draw a diagonal line to connect the points. Now, draw a vertical for T dry mix of 64 F (that we calculated from the equation) that intersects this line. However, how are you reading a T wet of 60 F from this diagram -which is...

    NCEES Sample Exam - #535

What question is this ? #535 in the MD PM Exam is two aluminum channels buckling ? I looked at the other 535's and don't see it either ?

    NCEES Morning # 134-136

#134 comes right out MERM 38-5 and equation for the T mix (Dry Bulb). But how do you use the Psych chart to find the T-dry bulb mix if you dont have the equation? I realize you plot the T dry bulb and the RH that's given, and draw a line to connect the two points, but how do you know where it...

    Rivet & Bolt Connection

Merm 51-10 says that the cross sectional area to resist tension in the lap plate is At = t (b-Nd) , where t = thickness of the plate. However, in 6 min solution MD # 68 & 71 has the equation At = 2t (b-Nd). Is there a real difference between the two equations or perhaps a misprint...

Anyone taking MD this October ? Just started to get familiar with MERM layout. Will start attempting some actual problems next ( 6 min solutions/ NCEES practice exam).

    Metric Units????

Been studying for a good 3 months now. Is it just me ...or... do ya'll feel the same way: The more practice problems I do the more I feel Like I'm not going to do well. How hard (in level of difficulty) are you expecting the actual problems on the PE going to be?(at least for the morning...
