    CA Survey exam

From my experience, and w/o an eng degree, the Hiner book is the key to passing seismic (passed 1st time), surveying is a simpler subject, but the test is fast paced and inconsistent from cycle to cycle. Use the Reza problems. Another source is the Mansour manual, great for formulas and...

Do I Have a Prayer of Passing?

I passed the EIT, the 8-hour civil and CA seismic without ever having taken an engineering course, so it is totally possible. I had to put more time into studying, but the material was not that bad.

    Underground Utility Location/Identification- CA Survey

Thanks Desert Engineer. I had a similar situation and protest on the exam. I think potholing is the answer they are looking for to positively identify the utility, but as-builts will show the approximate location and alignment. There didn't seem to be a correct answer on the exam, however.

    Underground Utility Location/Identification- CA Survey

Thanks for the reply. After doing some reading, it looks like "potholing" is the answer that works best. This is a topic that could be covered on the CA survey exam, hence my post on this forum.

    Underground Utility Location/Identification- CA Survey

Just curious, what is the best way/method of locating underground utilities such as sewer mains/laterals. I have seen both as-built plans and potholing mentioned, both will work, but in a test scenario, which is the "best?" Thanks

    Reza Study Materials

Most people study a bunch for the test, I finished on time and felt pretty good. I think that someone with common sense needs to write the test.

    CA Surveying

Did you pass the test? I agree with PE-STR that the test format is screwy compared to most of the study material out there. I have the REZA problems (sample test), and they did help quite a bit, the part I messed up on was the office procedures. Seismic was much more clear cut.

    Question from Cuomo book.

    454.69+4.02 = 458.71 = HI BM1 458.71 - 6.02 (FS TP1) = 452.69 = Elev TP1 452.69 + 4.20 (BS TP1) = 456.89 = HI TP1 Don't start too early, you'll burn out!

    Reza Study Materials

I just need to study (again) I guess....who writes that crappy test anyhow!! It seems like the 8 hour and seismic are no problem for most, but that survey test hangs lots of people up.

    Reza Study Materials

Good question, all I have is a book titled "Civil Surveying Review Workshop Practice Exam" that contains 11 chapters of problems, no other material. Were there notes or was there another book that went with the class? Do you want to sell it? I'd like to take the class but it is a long drive...

    Reza Study Materials

Does anyone have the handbook and notes from the Reza Mahalatti survey review class that they would like to sell? I already have the practice exam.
