    VA Results

yes, best wishes to all of you in VA. I was part of the group last year and I know how it is waiting - i used to check here several times a day in anticipation. But, it will be here before you know it.

just took the lindeburg practice test

I took and passed the Civil PE Exam back last October - in preparing I took both the Lindeburg Sample Civil PE Exam (2nd Edition) and the NCEES sample exam. Additionally, I also did a lot of Lindeburg's Practice Problems in his companion book to the CERM. From my experience, Lindeburg's problems...

Best methord to carry in the reference books

Suitcase with wheels is by far the best! I 2nd whoever said it before.

    Kaplan book

I don't know anything about KAPLAN - I do know about 20 + people and they all used CERM and passed. I never considered KAPLAN because I just took advice from everyone who took it before me. They were all 1st time passers too.

    Question on Accident Data Analysis...

I know what you are talking about - I would go ahead and stick with Lindeburg's equations and example - usually, they separate injuries and fatalities consistent with his equation

    Incremental time question

what section in the HCM are you talking about? Or is this not in the HCM?

    green book question

I was in the same situation was you were for the fall exam. However, I had a 2004 copy at work that I used and left them with my 2001. There is not a huge difference between the two books but if I were in your shoes I would try and get a copy of the 2004. If you can't you should be OK with the...

do we need the AISC ASD manual?

yeah, CSB is right - I tabbed the heck out of every book, especially the CERM and my Transpo references. Actually, I borrowed them from my job - when I got back to work my co-workers wanted to keep the tabs in the Green Book, Roadside Design Guide, etc. because it was easier for them to look...

do we need the AISC ASD manual?

Based on what you write above you should be OK. I would also recommend taking the NCEES sample examination because (even though some argue it is slightily easier than the real exam) I felt like it was great practice! I did everything you mentioned above and brought them in to the exam. Also, I...

HCM: Signalized Int. - Lane Width Assumptions

To answer your question they will always tell you what the lane widths are like they do in this example (see the diagram on 16-42 where they graphically drew in the lane widths). There is no way to determine them unless you go out and measure them. On the PE exam they will always provide you...

do we need the AISC ASD manual?

I passed the exam last October (Transp. Depth) - all you need is the CERM for the morning structural questions. In fact, for most morning structural questions I would say it is safe to say you just need to remember statics and elementary structural design (which are covered well in the CERM if...

    Which Calculator?

My advice - get the cheapest possible calculator that NCEES approves - I had the HP 35s and the TI-36x for backup. While the HP 35s was more powerful (cause you can program equations really easy and use statistical regresssion, etc.) the TI-36x would still help me solve 98 % of the problems just...

    essential equations

I can't speak for the Mech. but I used the essential equations for the Civil for the HP 33s - I actually used an HP 35s with the equations - I can honestly say it helped me answer 1 or 2 (maybe 3) questions much quicker then I would have otherwise (having the calcs programmed in). But, that was...

    Don't Sell Yourself Short!

I am very proud to be an Engineer but I don't think you can flat-out say Engineers deserve a six figure salary just because Lawyers can bill $ 400/hour. I think we can all agree that a lot of Lawyers are overpaid for what they do; however, if any of us were on trial with serious charges against...

    VIRGINIA - RESULTS

I was out of town this weekend but when I got back I noticed everything came in the mail on Saturday, 1/10 - my wall certificate in a tube, passing letter WITH a score (surprise there!), and license. Regarding the score - I had always heard that only Texas shows a score, but now I guess we can...

    VIRGINIA - RESULTS

Best wishes for next time Jarey and thanks for starting the VA posts! I know studying times vary from person to person, but from the advice I was given - Starting 3 months ahead of time: those who are preparing for the PE should study 1 - 2 hours every night and for about 6 - 10 over the...

Thanks KOMAR! Congrats to you too. Tried to change my log-in name but could not find how to - not the smartest when I set things up. I know a few people (names at the higher end of the alphabet) that took it but there names have not been listed yet on DPOR's website - is there the possibility...
