ASHRAE Books Necessary for HVAC & Refrig Exam?

Yes I think it's a good idea to bring a copy of the psych chart for different elevations. I can't remember if they provided a low temperature psych chart, so I'd bring one of those as well.

ASHRAE Books Necessary for HVAC & Refrig Exam?

The Six Minute Solutions and the PPI practice exam both have a number of examples that I would qualify as "ASHRAE practice questions". For example in the PPI practice exam, there's a question asking to size an expansion tank. Flip through the ASHRAE index, and it will lead you to HVAC Systems...

ASHRAE Books Necessary for HVAC & Refrig Exam?

Yes you absolutely need all 4 books. I used each book at least twice to look something up for a problem. I'm going as far to say they're more important to have than the MERM. I had the 3 or 4 equations that you use often from the MERM memorized by the time I sat for the test. I arrived at...

    ENGPROGUIDES

I took HVAC so it might differ some for TFS. But Engproguides was by far more representative of the exam compared to the PPI practice exam. Only thing better was the NCEES practice test. PPI practice exam was way more difficult, I worked it through twice and that was it. A lot of the problems...

    OCTOBER 2017 PE EXAM

I did pass. I also spent a significant amount of time in the ASHRAE books. Did you do the six minute solutions and PPI practice test? They both have quite a few practice problems that would force you to practice using the ASHRAE books.

    October 2017 PE Results Survey

I passed HVAC on my first try! Thanks Justin! I filled out the survey. I used the NCEES practice materials, all of the PPI stuff, plus your study guide and practice test. I can easily say your material was the best of them all, and just as representative of the exam as the NCEES practice test.

    OH is in!!

Can confirm! I passed HVAC as well!!

    December 8th release date

When I took the FE in 2012, it was pencil and paper still and I was in there with people taking the PE. All results were released at the same time which was Friday Dec. 7th. It sounds like this pattern has been continuing so I'm going to bet Dec. 8th as well.

    OCTOBER 2017 PE EXAM

Unless you are very experienced HVAC consulting engineer (like my bosses who can pull random design facts out of their ass since they've been doing it 40 years), there's no way you would do well on many of the questions without all 4 ASHRAE books. I took it for the first time Friday and now I...

    OCTOBER 2017 PE EXAM

I will agree with you about those last problems. I felt like there were a few more repeats as well. A few other times I was reading the question and thinking to myself, "this can't be right, they already asked me this question before?" Maybe it's just the luck of the draw with how they randomly...

    OCTOBER 2017 PE EXAM

I took HVAC and I think I did pretty well. Skipped one question in the morning, and skipped one in the afternoon. Answered all the "general knowledge" questions that didn't require any calculation, but circled a few to come back and revisit. Finished both sessions with over an hour left and had...

Feel good about how you did on the exam?

I took the HVAC and Refrigeration and overall thought it was pretty easy. The practice tests had me pretty well prepared for all the calculation problems and then everything else I was able to find in ASHRAE. I was able to arrive at an answer that was one of the four choices on every problem but...

    ASHRAE Superheated tables

Page 30.18 of the 2013 edition. But it's just for R-134a. So we have to do it graphically for any other refrigerant.

    Pump curve problem

Yeah I messed myself up by labeling head with P and then I used the wrong equation lol. So obviously the point of this is to prove the SMS HVAC #30 wrong since they use 18.46 as well.  Are there any other affinity law cases where plugging and chugging through the formula doesnt work? Every...

    Pump curve problem

Speed is held constant at 1750. I picked 380 gpm and looked at the head for each curve at that flow. P1=140, P2=90, D1=12, D2=?. I used 18.47 in the MERM, P2/P1=(D2/D1)^3 and solved for D2 to get 10.4 inches.

    set of psychrometric charts?

No they are not parallel but they are very close. To the point where it shouldn't make a difference if you follow them up to read enthalpy. This is the chart that I've been using and I've always been close enough with the enthalpy readings on it. By far the easiest chart to read enthalpy on...

    ASHRAE Superheated tables

Pretty much exactly what I've been doing. I have a digital copy of the the Fundamentals and printed out the refrigeration diagrams chapter and bound it separately for quicker use. I can't imagine you'll need anything more than this. It even has the superheated data tabulated for R-134a which...

    Morning vs. Afternoon?

Yes it's all just your discipline. HVAC test won't have any statics, material properties, machine design, etc... on the morning portion, and vice versa for the MDM, TFS tests. If you're taking the test on Friday, I'd say it's a little late in the game to be figuring this out now haha.

Required codes to bring? (HVAC test)

Not in the 2016 HVAC one. However there is one in the 2001 HVAC pm section about a kitchen hood. There are a couple between the PPI practice test and SMS. And then I remember two more that require the actual standards. One in the SMS where you need the table in ASHRAE 62.1 to get occupant...

Required codes to bring? (HVAC test)

On every single practice exam including the NCEES ones, any question they have like this, where the answers are all just different codes, you would only need to know the "name" of each standard to solve the problem. For example in the SMS HVAC book, you would easily be able to get the answer to...
