    ductwork

Yes, turning vanes also control air direction.  The purpose of the turning vane could be to reduce pressure drop or it could also be to control distribution.  I've installed them for both purposes.  The "main" reason to install them will depend on the objectives and requirements of the project.

    6MS Thermal Question No 49

The electrical circuit analogy is used often.  However, pressure drop not equivalent to resistance.  Pressure drop is analogous to voltage drop.  If you wanted to figure this problem out using an effective resistance method you could do so, but the equation they gave doesn't do that. delta_P =...

    6MS Thermal Question No 49

I agree with you, something about this doesn't seem right to me either.  Particularly, the combination of the pressure drops.  I've never seen it done quite that way and intuitively it seems incorrect.   If this were a real case I would size the pump for the total flow with the higher of the...

    NCEES 2001 Problem 116

This comes from the power being three-phase. The square root of 3 = 1.73 I = P / ( V * pf * SQRT(3)) Note the mechanical efficiency is not used.  It's superfluous information since they give you the motor load.  You would need that if they gave you the work done by the fan and needed to work...

Don't be scared off by the studying

I’m writing this in the hope that a few people will read it and not be scared off from taking the exam.  I remember coming to this board for the first time and seeing all the accounts of people spending 200, 300, or 400+ hours studying for the exam.  It seemed like such daunting task to fit this...
