    SE: Vertical or Lateral First?

Passed October SE Gravity.  Then passed April SE Lateral.  For my study style, it simply wouldn't have worked to take on both in the same weekend.  By separating them I was able to throw all efforts into the specifics of each.  The duration of my "study commitment" ended up being less than a...

    April 2015 Pass Rates

It makes sense, really.  If it's not a state-mandated license to practice, you're not going to see the same turnout that you would in CA, IL, WA, etc.  Most sane individuals will opt for the Civil-structural PE or some other PE "path of lesser resistance". You won't see the landscape change...

    April 2015 Pass Rates

In my state, ten people took the April 2015 SE lateral.  Three passed. National pass rate for that same exam was 43%.   I would be shocked if the western states don't buoy up the national average considerably.

    SE Refresher Course Suggestion

"I don't want to learn too much theory, just want to see as many problems as I can." Not sure how you can separate the two. So how did everyone do?

Use it as a learning experience and take another shot at it. I think trying to use brute memorization of canned material and responses can be a recipe for poor performance if there isn't a thorough underlying comprehension of the information itself.  Memorizing material and comprehending...

    Why Civil - Structural?

    Gogo's post broke my interwebs.

    Why Civil - Structural?

David Connor pretty much nailed it. Until the SE is more widely accepted as the benchmark for structural engineering licensure across at least a majority of the states, there has to be a discipline-specific barometer.  The Civil-Structural is it.   I personally have no issue with it.  There is...

Bridge Problems for the Structural Engineering (SE) Exam: Vertical Loads

Certainly fills a need considering available SE bridge design study resources tend to be so scarce.  Thanks for sharing.  I'm sure a lot of hard work went into preparing it. Any timetable for completion of the lateral loads volume of the publication?

Study On Your Own vs. Review Courses

Studied on my own.  Generally speaking, I think review courses tend to evoke a false sense of security in many individuals that decide to fork over the money to participate. To me there is simply no substitute for establishing and executing one's own plan of attack in its entirety.  I sense...
