    October PE exam preparation

I've taken the Testmasters PE Power course, and I can tell you that if you haven't done any electrical work for 10 years, you will not be able to walk into this class and get much out of it. It moves very fast, and there's a ton of material that they cover in the allotted 9 classroom days. I...

Where to get your PE stamp?

    I smell a vendor fight...

Where to get your PE stamp?

That's where I ordered mine. I was very happy with the price and quick turn-around time shipping them to me. I think I got my stamp before I was even sent my official notice of approval from the Texas Board saying I was now registered.

    Power Systems Conference

I only attend one major conference every year related to power systems, and that is the IEEE PCIC Conference. Usually that's the only I can get approval for. And even that will be iffy this year. That said, I have taken a couple of training courses with SEL, and their materials and instructors...

How I prepared for the PE Power exam...

Though I agree on principle that generally one shouldn't rely on practice tests too much during the exam, one very big exception to this would be the official NCEES Practice Exam.

    TX results out!

Couldn't agree more. Which is why I said that I'm glad to know. As in, I personally, Dubbs, am glad to know what I scored, and that has no bearing on the competence of anyone else who may have passed with a higher or lower score. Nothing more, nothing less.

    TX results out!

Texas is one of the few states (maybe the only one?) that posts passing grades. Which is good because I'm glad to know what my passing margin was.

    TX results out!

Yeah, last fall it took the NCEES page a couple of days to reflect the scores on TBPE page. Rest assured though, if that link says you passed, you're good to go. Congrats fellow Sparky!

    Where was you?!

This is more or less my experience as well. As for my own story, I was actually making the 6-hour drive home from Louisiana after a particularly grueling offshore hitch. It was December 2015, just about six months ago. When I got back to the beach I checked here to discover that several states...

Let's all give a round of applause to NCEES

Can I congratulate them while still being bitter about how long it took them last fall?

April PE - What did you think?

I got my PE certification last fall, but the fewer people that know that, the better.

April PE - What did you think?

It's always interesting when I see comments that the morning or afternoon session was easier or harder than the other for the Power exam. My understanding is that problems are fairly evenly distributed through both sessions for Electrical, unlike some of the other exams which have a "breadth"...

April PE - What did you think?

    Uhhhh...

I just called and found out that Exam results are in...

35? ... Did you see how long it took to get results back last fall? You might need to adjust that by several days.

Less than 2 weeks away. How's everyone feel?

Guys, let me tell you from experience... there is no way to predict how you'll do. I've seen people study for months after multiple attempts, go in totally confident they'd pass this time, and fail miserably. I've seen people sweat it out studying for two weeks before the exam, thinking they...

    transformer polarity dot convention

Here are two simple rules for helping remember dot convention: Current - Current goes into the dot on one winding, and comes out of the dot on the other winding. Voltage - Voltage peaks at the same point on both dots.

    panic attack

Are you taking a class to prepare? I took the exam in October. I didn't begin studying until around mid-August (which would be akin to mid-February in your case), and I passed with a fairly high score by studying on my own in conjunction with taking a class. If you're studying on your own, you...

    POWER PE-NEED ADVICES

I'd also recommend at least skimming through IEEE Std 242 (The Buff Book), Recommended Practice for Protection and Coordination of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems. It's a surprisingly thorough source that covers almost everything you could expect to see on the PE in terms of protection...

    October 2014 PE Results Map

Holy crap, are you kidding me? It has been 12 weeks. How in the world could they not have releases scores yet? That's unbelievable. Sorry, hope you can hang in there.

    Types of Stamps

I got both an embosser and a self-inking stamp. Assuming I'll ever have to actually stamp anything, I'm sure the ink stamp is the only one I'll ever actually use. But the embosser is really cool and I couldn't help but get it as well.
