Study On Your Own vs. Review Courses

For both components of the SE I decided to take an online review course. I felt this would be the most efficient way to study, and provide a little peace-of-mind that I covered (or at least had notes for) all the material on the exams. Since I only took one component at a time, it made the...

    Studying for PE Exam

Took the PE exam before SE, and I agree with all of the above comments. PE Civil-Structural (afternoon) is a walk in the park compared to the SE. As darius noted, hardest part will be the broad morning session, getting familiar with the CERM is critical to passing.

Recent reviews of SE prep courses

My company will reimburse for a review class (if you pass), so I took School of PE for SE Lateral last fall and am currently enrolled in the SE Vertical classes (decided to only take one component at a time). I passed Lateral-Bridges on the first try, so I will say that it was a worthwhile...

    Historical SE Exam Pass Rates

I was having a discussion with a co-worker regarding the SE Exam and the subject of passing rate was brought up. When I told him its usually around 40% (combined) he was very skeptical that it would be this low, and even after showing him the published NCEES results for Oct '14, he still...

October 2014 SE Test - Results

Went one-and-done with Lateral Bridges! Decided to only take one at a time, so I'll be cracking open the books again for the April Vertical exam. This forum has/continues to be an amazing resource for this test. Thanks to everyone who contributes and makes this such a great community...

    NCEES 2015 Design Standards

Thought I'd share some clarification I received on the new ASCE 7-10 standard. I asked NCEES the following: "The information provided on the website is unclear regarding which ASCE 7-10 printing is required for the exam (there are 3 printings). Supplement No. 1 (only included in the 3rd...

    AASHTO Wind

0.30 klf is set as the minimum superstructure wind loading for beam/girder bridges and does not need to be adjusted for different base pressures. After computing your wind loading, you would check it against this minimum (i.e. in your example 0.30 klf would govern). PPI Question #16 has a...

Hello, I'm looking to track down a copy of Steven Hiner's Seismic Design Review workbook, 2009 IBC version. Does anybody have a copy they are willing to sell? Mr. Hiner told me that he no longer sells the old version. http://www.seismicreview.com/Workbook.html Thanks!
