    Thermo Frustration

I used the tables in my thermo textbook from school. They were easy to read and had the units for each property shown on every page (not all tables do that). I don't recall having to interpolate during either of the two times I took the exam. Maybe I just got lucky.

    Thermo Frustration

Note that state 1 and state 2 are both at superheated steam. Note also that the turbine expansion is isentropic, hence, s1=s2. I'm assuming you found s1 (1.6263 Btu/lbm-R) from the data given at state 1. Now, go to the superheated steam tables and find the pressure you were given at state 2 (96...

    Thermo Frustration

Is it from the 2011 NCEES Thermal and Fluids Systems sample exam?

    Thermo Frustration

Everyone's different, but I didn't worry about using Mollier h-s diagrams. If you work enough thermo problems using the tables, you'll be able to do them in your sleep. In some instances you might sacrifice accuracy using a Mollier diagram. If you're talking about the psychrometric chart for...

    NCEES Texas

Congratulations to everyone who passed! And to those who didn't - the respect and professionalism you've displayed in congratulating those who did pass is truly admirable and heart-warming. Never lose faith and never give up and I guarantee that you will reach your goal.

    How many tries before passing?

Mechanical - Thermal and Fluids Systems, 2nd try.

Nice, bold look. Very engineer-ish. Better than red or blue.

Did you run out of time?

Hackett - funny you said you had to check and recheck to make sure you had actually passed. I felt the exact same way. After taking the exam for the second time, I wasn't sure I was reading the 'pass' result correctly. I even had to get my wife to look at it and confirm to me that I had...

    MD six min solutions

Bingo. You can never work too many sample exam problems or practice problems. Become familiar with those problems inside and out, particularly the ones involving your afternoon module topic. Like that C&W song by Bobby Pinson says, "Don't ask me how I know!"

    How to stay motivated?

I wouldn't rely solely on the NCEES sample exam as an indicator of your readiness for the real exam. The level of difficulty of the NCEES sample exam tends to be lower than that of the actual PE exam. Seek out a PE exam reference manual in your engineering discipline and work as many of those...

Did you run out of time?

The quantity of study time is not as important as the quality of the study time. Don't get me wrong, it requires a substantial amout of time to prepare for the PE exam, but focus on the material you need to cover rather than on the number of hours you spend doing it. You need to have the right...

    Engineering unit conversion

Agreed with SMott. Engineering Unit Conversions by Lindeburg is essential in preparing for, and taking the PE exam. Start using it early in your preparation so you can get a feel for how to flip through it quickly.

    Hvac exam

I second the recommendation of mastering the Lindeburg Mechanical PE Practice Examination. While the NCEES practice exam provides a good sampling of what to expect, the level of difficulty is not as high as that of the real exam. Work as many problems as you can over and over, even the ones you...

    Percent of ME's with PE?

Here's an interesting article posted on the National Society of Professional Engineers website: http://www.nspe.org/resources/blogs/pe-licensing-blog/80-myth-engineering-profession. The article was published 09/13/10. In a nutshell, the author states that, "only about 20% of those who graduate...

Using PE in an Industry That Doesn't Require It?

I work in the aerospace industry which does not require PE licensure, and I do not attach the letters to my name on any work-related correspondence. I do, however, use the letters on my LinkedIn profile so that prospective employers can see my accomplishment. The letters also appear on my resume...

Mechanical PE Exam Advice & Review Materials

I concur completely with the method of working practice exam problems over and over again (as many as you can), even the problems you are very familiar with. Your ability to instantly recognize how to work a problem on the real exam increases tremendously by doing this. Many things become second...

    PE and Money

The website glassdoor.com has salary data which can be searched by job title and location. PE licensure, however, does not appear to be included in the data for engineering positions.

    How I passed TFS October 2013 with a 96

Agreed about the Lindeburg Engineering Unit Conversion book. Unit conversions must be done quickly and seamlessly during the exam to stay on time. Of course, working problems over and over when studying (particularly in your selected discipline) will cause many of the unit conversions to become...

Texas October 2013 PE Results out . How did you do?!

Passed Mechanical (Thermal/Fluids Systems) with an 84. This was my second time taking it. I wonder why the passing rate for second and third-time test takers gets progressively lower?
