    How I passed TFS October 2013 with a 96

Considering how much I had relied and gone through people's experiences, I think I owe this forum and community my two cents. First off, no I did not go through testmasters or any other prep course. They are not a guarantee despite what you say and you still have to do the same amount of study...

    NCEES sample (general question)

People who have taken the exam have said that the NCEES sample was representative of the actual. I have notice many questions in TFS afternoon where the question is one page long with numerous values and tables but the solution is as simple as a couple of lines. I wasted time thinking the...

    Lindeburg Sample morning #5

Is there something wrong with the solution? the answer should be 390 tones. Work is 70 and Qin is 320. Shouldnt the heat rejected to condenser ( Q out) be Qin + W for refrigeration? The answer is given as 70 tons Q out. That doesnt seem right to me.

Electrical in "I. Basic Engineering concepts"

The outline for the exam mentions Electrical concepts. Would chapter 67 suffice or would that be redundant? electricity wasnt my forte in undergrad and I am wondering what is the difficulty of EE questions that come. Thanks!

    ME lindeburg Sample exam..worth it?

Hi, I am at a crossroads trying to decide and would appreciate your input. I would hopefully be done with chapters in MERM end of September or first week of October. I would revise and then hit the exams. From what I am told, the lindeburg sample exam is way too hard and demoralizing etc etc...

    51.12

I dont understand the solution to this question. The equations are all based on distance to the bolt from center of group but here they use the vertical distance. And also, the example doesnt divide the moment as we are trying to get shear stress from torque but in the solution it does. Can...

    Chapter 49.5

for question no 5. There is normal stress which is due to Mz and another due to My. in the fourth quadrant they both act in same direction. Why shouldnt we just add them up plainly to get max tensile stress and take a resultant? Can anyone explain? Thanks!

    Qualitative questions in PE

I recently found out through a friend that not all questions are quantitative. Some questions come in the exam that are descriptive (not needing any calculations). Can any of the past exam takers ratify this? Also, how many are there? is it in the mornign section or both? and were those...

    MERM chapter 44.8 question

Could anyone tell me where did they get the equation for deflection at the center of the beam in 44.8? This isnt the simple plain deflection of uniformly loaded elastic beam, this has a column to take some of that deflection so I couldnt figure out where they came up with this? Thanks!

    MERM Chapter 17

I am trying to do merm chapter 17 questions 10,11,12. This is the Pipe network which is done through the Hardy cross method. Was anyone able to do these questions the first time around?! Its an awful lot of iterations and just the first one took me more than an hour and I still got it wrong:S.

    LMTD for cross flows

Hi, I know this may be basic but it has been a while since I was out of college and wanted to confirm. It is plain easy , plug and chug , to determine the LMTD for counter flow and parallel flow since you can tell there are two distinct ends. But lets say a cross flow exchanger has water...

    Basic Engineering Practice (exam spec)

Hey guys, ( the ones who have taken the PE) the exam spec says 30% for basic engineering practice => drawings, symbols, econ, PM, electrical and units. For this, the only thing I have on my to study list is electrical and perhaps econ( I am pretty strong with that so might skip). 30%...

    MERM chapter 32 question 5

I solved this using the approach that the mass requirement by the three tools (31.something lbm/min) with intake of 21.6 lbm/min creates a deficit. The tank has 1500+ lbm which will provide for this till it runs out. My answer came out to be different from the book. I dont understand the...

    MERM 29.1 practice problem

This may be a little basic but I am burshing up on it and would be a little rusty. but for 29.1 problem, for a) why am I getting a different results when I use equation 25.92 as opposed to reading air table and pressure ratios ( as given in solution)? my understanding was that it should give...
