Yes, the problem is I don't want to switch company though, I like my immediate supervisor
and its closer to my house, very convenient. But salary is the hands of upper management.

I work for a mid size company, got my PE this October. I am making about 52k/yr, told my boss about PE but no response about the raise or promotion yet.

I applied Michigan for pre-approval before the exam so I can tell you about that. Basically you just have to fill out an application, have 5 references 3 must be PEs and send your transcript. Once you have all the material submitted it shouldn't take more than 1 month to get the approval.
Yes, as John said 12th edition should be good enough. Although I didn't use CERM that much in the morning, that was just too intimidating for me.
I used learncivilengineering.com notes for the morning. They are organized per topics in the exams.
