Has anyone else been told to avoid the structural pm?

My first PE attempt was structural pm in April 2011, which I passed. It did require a lot of study in the areas of wood and masonry for me, since those topics were not a part of my BCE back in the day. I have worked in the precast/prestressed concrete industry doing mostly design and some...

How did you study with young kids at home?

I figured I had a choice of giving their ages in years or months....I guess I just chose whatever I felt like at that time B)

How did you study with young kids at home?

I was very lucky in that my wife is a stay-at-home mom. My girls at the time were 5.75 and 3.25 years old; what I would do is get home from work and immediately study for 3 hours (3 out of the 5 weekdays), then spend an hour with the family before putting the girls to bed. On the weekends...

    Licensure in other states

Another vote for the record. I am now licensed in four states, with a fifth one pending. It has saved me A LOT of time and paperwork!

    Highest Civil-Geotech Failing Score?

If you want my opinion, you need to focus more on your weaknesses in the morning section. If you got 27 in the afternoon, that means you only got 26 in the morning. Generally speaking, the morning questions are much easier than afternoon questions. Even for the areas that are not within your...

    Marathon runners

I'm starting to ramp up my miles in preparation for an October 7th full marathon. Probably do a half marathon the last weekend in August as well. Then probably another half marathon on October 27th.

    Minnesota PE Results

I passed in April 2011 (first try), and if that is any indication, results were released to member boards on Weds May 25th. The MN board mailed letters on May 31st, and I got mine on June 1st. So, that means results were mailed three business days after release to member boards. Translating...

    Passed, Pay Raise?

At least some of you get raises from your current employers. I, on the other hand, work for a precast concrete producer who does not have a PE on their staff. I gained all of my experience by working with the consultants we hired to design our products. We had a deal worked out with a couple...

    Marathon runners

Duct tape works great, especially for the nipples....it's not really that bad taking it off, but works great as a barrier while running. I have considered body glide before, and I have used vaseline, which worked OK, but duct tape is the cats ass! I agree on the obesity topic. I have been...

    Marathon runners

Chafing sucks! I use the redneck solution to the only spot I have problems - duct tape on the nipples baby, but only on runs longer than about 6-8 miles (which is most of them, of course!). I do my long runs on Sat mornings and have been trying to get going by 5:30am for most of them. Last...

Things you do to at work to get/stay healthy?

As do I (except the coffee part). Lunch workout is lifting weights (3 days/week) and dynamic stretching (2 days/week). My cardio is training for an October marathon. That and I run regularly all year anyways.

    MINNESOTA - RESULTS APRIL '11

You did fill out the license application that came with your pass letter and included the $132 application fee right? I got my pass letter on June 1st, and I sent out the app and check the same day. My license was issued the next day on June 2nd, and I got it in the mail on June 7th. It...

    Marathon runners

That it is! Got my run in today; it's amazing how easy the effort feels running a few miles shortly after finding out I passed the PE exam. Felt like I could go forever just on adrenaline!

    MINNESOTA - RESULTS APRIL '11

Heh, I haven't been very productive at work since results first started coming out last Wednesday afternoon. Told the wife to let me know when the mail comes if the board letter is there, and if it is, I know where I am going on my lunch hour (I only live 10 miles from work).
