    New California Requirements

Thanks for almost giving me a glimmer of hope :) . I will inform this board once I hear back from the California office...hopefully shortly...

    New California Requirements

Thanks Kevo. I passed the October 2011 NCEES 16 hour exam, so it looks like any of us "early birds" passing in 2011 will need to also take the CSLRE once our paperwork gets to the CA PELS office. Any word if this is a take home exam or should I budget for my hotel and rental car now?? Should...

    New California Requirements

I have a call into CA PELS, but while I am waiting ohh so patiently for them to return my call for clarification I will ask the same question: I am a licensed Civil Engineer in California (8 hour NCEES PE + State Specific Seismic and Surveying + Takehome Exam), I have also passed the 16 hour...

    Post SE Exam results here...

Morning section was a total of 33/40 correct (I know the damn AASHTO questions destroyed me) , afternoon session was 1 unacceptable the rest acceptable. *shrug*

    Post SE Exam results here...

Absolutely correct. My April exam was crazy - I was above average in all the sections for the AM session and for the afternoon session I had an unacceptable on 1 problem (the first problem) and the rest were acceptable, so I called the board to see how "close" I was. Turns out each "section"...

    Post SE Exam results here...

I really did study my arse off for the April exam, but I still wasn't as prepared as I should have been for the lateral portion - it was such a bummer. When it comes to what will be on the exam - Lord only knows, I doubt there will be an essay portion dealing with precast high seismic...

    Post SE Exam results here...

Colorado Took both exams in April. Passed the Vertical failed the Lateral. Reapplied for the Lateral this past October and passed! Funny thing was, I walked out of there feeling the exam was too easy (and found a few things on the essay portion of the exam that I thought were misleading...

    16 Hour SE Results

Colorado 6.29.11 Passed the gravity portion. Need to retake the lateral portion. Above average on the Lateral AM sections, Unacceptable on the PM Wood/Masonry Problem. The rest were "Acceptable". Guess I know what I will be studying this coming August and September.

    SE 2-day

Honestly, I thought both the morning and afternoon questions were fairly balanced. Morning questions on the vertical portion seemed almost too easy - but in reality, they left just enough time to not feel rushed towards the end, I walked out during the lunch break wondering how many "easy and...

    NCEES Practice Exam 112 (lateral)

I think, we as a whole in the Engineering community, over-think things. I know I am guilty of it, just ask my wife...on second thought... In order to do a full blown frame analysis we would need to know the column stiffness, beam stiffness, and brace stiffness - otherwise we would just be...

    NCEES Practice Exam Problem 801

I will most likely use their methodology and write in my book something along the lines of "this is what you jerks did, so I am doing the same - please don't fail me!"

    NCEES Practice Exam Problem 801

The NCEES solution to that problem confused the hell out of me and I think it is incorrect (though I did include their methodology in my notes). Masonry TEK-4 states that the net area should be used in the calculation of unreinforced masonry. (BTW - for anyone reading this...Make sure to...

$240 for AASHTO PE Exam Edition

I was shooting to get my SE in CA about 2 years ago. A friend of mine in CA has his ear pretty close to the licensing board out there and he warned me that a change was coming and that I might get "trapped" if I started on the SE II and SE III path. He basically forced me to wait; and in the...

$240 for AASHTO PE Exam Edition

If you plan on taking the April exam you are going to be putting in some late nights to get a good handle on it ;) . I used to be a buildings guy, but I dabbled in bridge design in a previous life. Not sure if it helps, but I mainly focused on Chps 3 thru 6. Chp 3 has all your load cases and...

Getting our books to the table!!??

Thanks for the heads up. I noticed it said for the FE and FS but I didn't want to show up and have someone tell me that I can't pack it in for the SE. Thanks!!!

Getting our books to the table!!??

Ok, this may sound like a stupid question, but how is everyone planning on bringing all their books to the table? Per NCEES "Pack all personal items in a clear bag; opaque bags such as the green, blue, yellow, white, or brown plastic bags used by grocery stores are not allowed. No purses or...

    Good examples of structural irregularities?

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have been through both the 2006 SEAOC Volumes as well as "Seismic and Wind Forces" (Alan Williams) and they both are lacking when it comes to good hard examples of horizontal and vertical irregularities. "Seismic and Wind Forces" does provide two examples...
