    Stopwatch?

I took the test this April in North Carolina. I had a digital wrist watch that I was using as a stop watch. The only stipulations were that I had to turn the "beep" off and it had to be kept on the floor if not worn on my wrist. They wouldn't allow me to keep it on the table top. I'm assuming...

    PE Seal/Stamp

Same for NC. There's no date on the stamp itself. You just sign and date below when sealing prints.

Which verison of NEC on 2008 Exams?

The April 2008 Exam used the 2005 NEC. Therefore, I would assume that the October exam will utilize same. I don't believe the 2008 NEC will be incorporated before the April 2009 exam.

    Why get a Mechanical PE?

I saw a commercial last night for "Righteous Kill," a new cop movie starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. There was a great quote from the film in that commercial. "I'm a cop. I carry a badge and a gun. Most people respect the badge. Everybody respects the gun." This is my analogy for an...

    Advice on Calculators

In my humble opinion the calculators on the approved list are about as useful as the one pictured below (which oddly enough is not on the list): Seriously, all of the approved calcs are pretty basic so neither should cause you to pass or fail. Just be sure you really know how to use the one...

    NCEES #511 (Power Depth)

    This may not make much sense without a picture of the line and load but here goes: VAB = 12.5 <0 degrees (kV) so VAN = 12.5/sqrt3 <-30 degrees (kV) = 7.22 <-30 degrees (kV) now Van = VAN + IaA(5+j10) = (7.22 <-30degrees) + (70/1000 <-20degrees)(5+j10) = 7.48...

How many answers were just wild guesses?

I've read many sound strategies from folks who've passed. They all sound like good ways to go about it. I would recommend working a sample test (or at least part of one) with a running stop watch to figure out which may work best for you personally within the constraints of time. I took the...

    Matrix Math on the Exam?

I just made sure I knew how to enter and work with a 4x4 matrix in my calculator. I don't think you'll see more than a 2x2 or maybe 3x3 but I figured if I could enter and manipulate a 4x4 in my calculator quickly then I'd be set. I also printed out the instructions for my calculator with...

    Must I master the references?

I personally had a suitecase full of references. I did not use them all but was still glad I had them. Several were very specialized and tabbed to provide quick reference for one or two specific types of problems. Others were much more general. With normal variation in exam content from...

EE NCEES Sample vs. Actual Exam

I brought a ton of reference material in with me as do most. It included all sorts of material and practice problems bound in 3 ring binders. I felt like the exercise of compiling, reviewing, and organizing this material was beneficial in preparation but to be honest I used the 3 ring binders...

    PE Difficulty

I took the FE/EIT my senior year in college so the material was very fresh. My only additional preparation at the time was to attend a free review series offered by the IEEE at NC State. I thought the test was long and tough and seem to recall walking out thinking I'd failed it. However, I...

    License Numbers

Same here. I actually went ahead and orderred my seal from "http://www.engineerseals.com" as soon as I confirmed my license number with the NC Board. Got it already and have used it once.

PE Electrical - how to prepare

Something that really worked well for me was to create a rigid schedule for working practice exam problems. My particular schedule is included below as an example. I basically followed the 12 week study schedule recommended in the EERM (but cut the duration down to 6 weeks) and then jumped...

    NC Results are in

I second all of the above although, I've only been at it 14 years. If I hadn't stumbled upon this board and it's helpful contributors I certainly would not have passed. Stuff like "which resources are best to study and bring in to the exam" and "tips for the day before" as well as the very...

    NORTH CAROLINA RESULTS

I sent an email to the NCBELS today asking if they had received the April 2008 PE test scores yet and this is the response I got back: "We have not. Should be next week. We got surveying last week and the engineering usually lag about 2 weeks." It may not be new news for most but I just...

    De-motivational posters

Pappy was certainly "the man." For a while I used that picture in the employee directory at work. It took a long time for HR to realize who it was.
