    Success Strategy

Same here... having to guess on 32 out 80... with no clue on an educated guess, or how to work through the problem to at least come up with something reasonable seems like a real long shot. I guessed on maybe 8 or 9 problems, the stuff I had no time to figure out. Everything else I was able to...

Failed FL PE 3 times - what are my options?

Might the Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering PE Exam be a better choice than Civil? My degree is in Marine Engineering, which translates very well to Mechanical/HVAC which is what I do for a living, but I can't imagine trying to take a civil exam with my background. I guess it depends what...

Thanks to All The Help From the ME Board

The board is most definitely very helpful. The wealth of test taking experience is incredible. I will definitely be sending people preparing to take the exam this way, and most definitely will not be recommending my studying technique to anyone else. I can probably say I went rogue too, with...

    Passed, Pay Raise?

Within 1/2% of the the number spit back by engineersalary.com that's pretty neat. My education, and job description didn't quite fit the categories i could select from, but I chose the closest alternatives.

    NJ Law Component

Got my law test and license activation form in the mail yesterday, so if you haven't gotten yours yet, be on the look out!

    Success Strategy

This is great advice, and can not be emphasized enough. You have to be able to make all your conversions, and keep you units straight during the test. I caught myself a few times on both the PE and FE exams letting my units slip, and it's an easy way to blow a few questions that you may know how...

    Success Strategy

I was unable to take any time off work, but the company paid for the day of the test. I probably studied way less than a lot of people, hour wise... not many practice problems. What I did do was bone up on a few things that I don't do very often, with taking short cuts at work and stuff. That...

    April 2011 exam stories

same two people to a table in Jersey. When i took the FE two years ago I had a guy that was erasing a ton. This time I think I was the guy that was annoying, since I bumped my foot in to the table leg a few times while getting my reference books out. Anyone else take it in central Jersey? The...

    Planning for PE Exam

I had no fold out charts in my exam booklet. A coworker of mine was permitted to use one of the laminated style charts often handed out by sales reps. I have a few from Munters, this is what I was planning on using but forgot. It can be marked and erased very easily with a pencil. The...

    bootleg exam materials

I'm sure it's more complicated for the other disciplines, based on the suitcases, milk crates, hand trucks, etc full of books I saw others wheel in. I heard from a friend who took it in NY he saw a guy with three shelf book case full of books wheeled in on a hand truck. I'm not sure our code...

    Planning for PE Exam

I got by with the following: Mechanical Engineer Reference Manual The four ASHRAE handbooks an old HVAC text book and Cameron Hydraulic Data book I would advise bringing a larger Psychrometric chart, the ones in the books are a little tough to work off. I ended up forgetting to bring that...

    Passed, Pay Raise?

And in that case, the project can't support the additional fee, then the raise may have to be delayed a few months. On the flip side, the engineer could now take responsibility for his own work, depending on the laws in the state. The case your presenting with a 6 month project duration, it's...

    bootleg exam materials

I didn't notice that, but I did notice a ton of people with practice problem solution manuals, which from reading the list of stuff we were allowed to bring in NJ, I thought was a big no no. To me, if you don't know the material enough to work the problems out on your own, you are starting out...

    Master's in Engineering Management Decision

I don't mean to bump an older thread... but I earned my ME in Engineering Management from Stevens Institute in Hoboken NJ. It may not be as prestigious as some of the others you mentioned but they have a fine program, and an excellent Webcampus. I echo the other sentiments of working for a...

    Credentials

I sort of find degrees listed as a credential in a signature block or business card to be excessive. I think a PhD is OK, but masters and bachelors degree is a bit much.

how many hours do you work

probably close to 45 hours a week, though i try to keep it at 40. I have a 2 hour commute on either end of the work day. I'd be willing to do more OT (when it's available) if i didn't have that to contend with.

    Passed, Pay Raise?

I think this is the one time in your career in this field when it's justified to go kick down the door and demand more money. I already spoke with my boss, and i guess i will wait until i get my actual license number from NJ before I can get my bonus, and demand a raise. I am also planning...

Diagnostic sheet for people who pass too

I would like to see my FE diagnostic just out of pure curiosity. The reason being, was I had not prepared at all for the test, and I took it 7 year out of school. I walked in expecting to fail, and walked out with supreme confidence that I had passed. It was for me personally an incredible...

    NCEES Record?

We do work all around the country, so for my company it's recommended and I belie they pay for it. I will have to file immediately for two states as soon as my license comes through from NJ, I plan on doing it through the NCEES.

    NJ Law Component

I'm not aware of anyway to get a copy of it without them sending it to you. I got a copy around the same time i got the letter stating I passed my FE exam, I never returned it. They then sent me my EIT certificate when I registered for the PE exam, and I'm assuming I'll get another copy with...
