    NCEES #524

At 1/2 full-load, the load losses (I^2*R) is 1910W Now, find the load losses at full-load. If R is constant and I goes up by two, then (I^2) * R will go up by (2^2) or 4. At full-load, the load losses are 4*1910W = 7640W Total Loss = Core Loss + Load Loss = 460W + 7640W = 8100W

    motor and power factor

My response wasn't very clear. The only possible excitation in an induction motor is the stator input. The induction motor must operate at a lagging power factor.

    PU analysis, #530 or similar

See the following thread: http://engineerboards.com/index.php?showtopic=11332 There are several methods to calculate fault currents. One is the Ohmic method and another is the Fault MVA method. The NCEES sample questions uses the Ohmic method. I prefer the Fault MVA Method. Its much...

    NCEES #135 and #522

#135 refers to Transient Performance, and gives you the Transient Reactance X'd #522 refers to Steady State Performance of the machine, and gives you the Synchronous Reactance Xs Although the reactances are different for Steady State and Transient conditions. the equations to determine...

    NCEES 2009 Power question 530

The solution posted in the NCEES book works, but is not very clear. I prefer to use the "MVA Method" to quickly calculate short circuit currents. Refer to the paper "Short circuits ABC - Learn it in an hour, Use it anywhere, Memorize no formula" by Moon H. Yuen. It is a great paper that was...

NEC Code to Bring to Exam?

I plan to take the Power test in April. I have a copy of the 2002 NEC Code. Do you think I will need the 2008 edition? I've been able to answer sample questions using the 2002 and don't know if there are any major changes in the 2008 edition.
