anyone take the april test find that the new steel manual was difficult to use? i notice that the table for Sx is gone! the standards also list the seismuc design manual as a reference. any questions specifically on this manual?

Wood design... I have the timpber design manual (green one). It is based on the 1997 NDS. Pretty similar. Very good book, but why are the 1997 Fv values almost half of the 2001 Fv values? What changed between those two codes? second question deals with flat use factor Cfu and Size factor...

On the last April SE-1 exam, I felt like there were a bunch of questions on piles. I didn't know much about them and would like to learn the basics. Can anyone point me to some basic resources on the subject? Also, pre-stressed concrete...without getting into the complexities of the subject...

I am spending quite a bit of time reviewing, but can't help spending a lot of time on the same old stuff! I failed the Strl-1 exam last go around, but did not feel like I was ill prepared. I have been studying for the Oct exam and feel the same feeling.

Kevo: How would you rate the License review book that you used (by Alan Williams). Are the questions short and sweet like the exam? Long and drawn out like 246 solved strl problems book? Looking for similar problems to the NCEES strl sample probs book. More of them would be terrific. thanks

I don't know of any allowable value for expansion. I'm not sure where it would say it, but I am sure the code says that the overall design needs to be able to safely handle stress due to expansion/contraction as well as the overall expansion / contraction of concrete should not adversely affect...

while looking at the topics in this forum I realized that there are not many specific questions about practice problems or questions about subject matter. Is everyone studying yet for the test in October? wimp :reading:
