Grades and tensile stress areas are covered in the MERM (basic machine design, section 9 - bolts). However, if you are looking for another reference, machinery's handbook is a very good reference to have even outside of the exam.

Regarding #510, a simple way to think about this problem is to recognize that the vertical component in one chain is equivalent to half the weight of the block. Given the 60deg angle, you can find the horizontal component force at the top and then see that 4.4x this horizontal component is...

Anyone know of mechanical design review courses that have been updated to the new exam format? I see Dr. Tom's is on the ball, although the course schedule still shows the 2016 material.
