    PE status rewards

You guys hiring electricals? I can relocate ... :D

    How to pass PE (power)

Completely true. I used to work with a guy who took the PE in another state before he had four years of experience. Many years later when he moved here, he was denied a comity license for that reason and had to take the exam again.

    PE vs. P.E.

My girlfriend just came up with the ideal solution: John Doe, PE (P.E.)

When to add the "PE" to your signature?

Wow. I can't believe people are still waiting to hear their results. I got my results via snail mail seven days ago. Four days ago I sent a check to the state board, and today received my license card in the mail.

Can your employee or anyone find out how many times you took the exam?

As far as I can tell, my company doesn't really see it as a big deal. I get no bonus, no raise, no promotion, no new title, and no change in job duties. Even opportunities for promotion aren't affected since many of the people higher than me in the company aren't even eligible to sit for the...

When to add the "PE" to your signature?

I'm waiting until I have the license. They take such things very seriously in my state. I don't need to start my professional (licensed) career with an infraction on my permanent record and a fine. UPDATE: My name is in the online database of licensees as of this morning. I'm a P.E. now! Woo hoo!

Can your employee or anyone find out how many times you took the exam?

I just passed on my first try. I feel no pride whatsoever, as I view the exam as proof that sometimes a blind squirrel actually finds a nut. I don't feel cocky at all. I'm mainly just perplexed that I passed. I halfway don't want to put P.E. after my name because then people are going to expect...

Can your employee or anyone find out how many times you took the exam?

Well ... I'm an electrical engineer, so guess which exam I took. Hint: it wasn't naval architecture or petroleum.

    PE vs. P.E.

I'm waiting until I either see my name, license number and issue date included in the official online database that the state board maintains or I receive my license card in the mail. Besides, there's no real rush. My company won't be letting me sign anything in the foreseeable future, as they...

    PE vs. P.E.

Yes, and it's definitely something your state board might nail you for if they are so inclined. A good number of the disciplinary cases I've read were of the "Oops -- forgot to renew my license" variety. In some cases, people were nailed for not immediately removing "P.E" from their name after...

    PE vs. P.E.

Not sure if they are actually gods. They just write/administer an exam that no state is required to use. The folks at the state boards have the actual power to issue/revoke licenses. I'd say they are closer to god status than the folks at NCEES.

    PE vs. P.E.

NCEES uses P.E. in their newsletter, while the newsletter from my state board uses PE. My employer uses P.E. on their business cards.

How many years out of college were you when you got your PE??

I'm 20 years out of college from my first degree (humanities), but I went back to school for a second degree (engineering), which I got 10 years ago. Also 43, also passed the PE in October 2011. Currently waiting for the state to cash my check and issue my P.E. license.

Can your employee or anyone find out how many times you took the exam?

When I took my PE review course, one of the instructors related a story about how someone once put "Failed the PE exam with a very high score" on their resume. Bragging about passing on the first attempt seems pretty arrogant to me. I just passed on my first try, but I think if I want to be...

Can your employee or anyone find out how many times you took the exam?

Maybe. Depends on what the data privacy laws are in your state. In my state, all applicant information is classfied as confidential, which means even I can't access information about my own application. Once someone is licensed, the state makes name, address, phone number, and license...
